Singing Geography Lesson From Old New York Schools
A long-ago New York practice used songs to teach geography. Pupils learned Pelton outline maps and recited verses to "Auld Lang Syne" and "Bonny Doon" to name divisions, rivers, and places. The method covered all thirty-one states and European capitals, combining memory through melody with chantlike instruction.
