Corona Club Hosts a Night of Brilliant Entertainment

About two hundred guests attended Corona Club’s Ladies Night with decorated halls, smart gowns, and a varied program. Highlights included Prof. Doron and J. W. Long, Miss Mayme Findley, Edward Foley, Miss Hazel McNiel, Mrs. Chas Dickinson, Eddie Boyd, and Leonard Nattkemper performing songs, readings, and comedy. Refreshments were served and committees credited for the success.

Dr. P F Page plans to practice in Corona securing offices in the First National Bank building. A Vanderbilt graduate with years in general practice and hospital internship in New York he returns west seeking sunshine and community ties. Mrs Page and their child will join him soon.

Family excursion to Yosemite ends with state trip highlights

Mr. and Mrs. Perle Glass and Mrs. Thos. Glass returned Sunday evening from Yosemite Valley after an eleven day outing. Mr. Glass attended the ninth annual Master Plumbers convention in May. The group toured the park, Mariposa trees, Glacier Point, and enjoyed horseback rides while government rangers safeguarded the preserve. Also noting Mr. and Mrs. George Brown and daughter Elsie are currently visiting Yosemite.

Teachers for Next Year Selected

The completed list of teachers for the schools next year remains largely the same with a few new names. Prof H fy Priestly of Riverside will supervise both high school and grammar grades, joined by Olive E. Clark Louise M. Oakey Nina Beebe Laura Gilbert Wilma G. Lord and Elizabeth Andrews as assistant high school teachers. Grammar staff includes Lulu E. Main W. W. Cressen Meg Boudinot Clara B Bennett Delia Wycoff and Helen Whitmore with fourth Adina Conway and Lella Dye, third Eva B. Beebe Gracie Todd, second Etta Watkins Oleata Boling, first Lillie Martin Alice Wallace Maude Unger. Special Music and drawing is Marion Kimmell.

Engineer H. Clay Kellogg Leaves for Monterey Irrigation Plan

H. Clay Kellogg, city special engineer, departs for Monterey County to design a vast irrigation project. The plan covers about 4000 acres with cement pipelines and ditches, likely costing one third more than all recent city improvements.

Testimony of Christian laymen at church service innovation

A Sunday evening Christian church service featured five professionals sharing why they should be Christians. Dr A M Stafford spoke on the physician’s view of life, Dr Todd on teaching and Christian schooling, Attorney W G Randall on lawyers as Christians, M W Wells as a business leader, and Mr T C Jameson on employer duties. The program closed with Miss Pearl Cross singing and a duet by Lester Wampton and Wallace Beebe.

Another Old Soldier Responds to Last Call

Mr. J. W. Crittenden longtime Corona resident and veteran died Monday night in San Pedro rooms after months of illness. He had resided at Glendale Sanitarium and enjoyed watching ships from his harbor view porch. His wife died last year. funeral arrangements are being organized with assistance from Harry N. Sweet and others.

Painful trapeze accident injures Harold Lamson

Harold Lamson son of Mr and Mrs R D Lamson suffered a severe fall while practicing a stunt on a trapeze behind the Crown City rooming house on Sixth Street. His mouth and lip were cut with three stitches in the upper lip. He remained unconscious for a time and is ill at home but expected to recover.

Kindergarten Entertainment Pleases Miss Bates School

The Kindergarten Entertainment by pupils of Miss Besse Bates school last night impressed all. Children performed drills and songs, closing with a good night lullaby. Irene Scoville and Miss Jacques presented numbers between parts, with Scoville in blackface. The tableaux of Grecian art studies impressed the audience.

Motorized pumps added to Immergruen ranch wells

A 367 horsepower pumping plant is being installed on the Immergruen ranch along the Santa Ana river. An existing 75 horsepower engine remains in use, and the two plants will pump water from the two wells on the property.

Corona School District trustees call June meeting on site selection

Notices posted for a Corona School District meeting at the High School Auditorium next Monday night June 13 at 8 oclock. The session will vote to rescind all former actions by local electors and then choose a school site. A second item sets aside $100 from the bond issue to defend the trustees in the suit over block 172 purchase.

Grace Beebe returned last Friday from Los Angeles where she assisted Dr White in his osteopathic practice. She is a graduate of the Los Angeles College of Osteopathy this year.
