Namur and five forts are reported fallen to German forces with bombardment continuing on the remaining four forts. The news, confirmed by official sources in Berlin and London, signals a dramatic early clash as German armies push toward Paris amid a broad front advance.
An English observer in Ostend reports German troops rushing south through Brussels. About 200,000 men are said to have passed in the prior 48 hours. Officers describe long daily marches and highly organized equipment with carts bearing government marks.

The two Civil War comrades in the same regiment had not seen each other for fifty years until this reunion at Rosemont and spent time recalling hardships, trials, and glories of their soldier life half a century ago.
London August 25 The Chronicle correspondent reports Antwerp welcomed by flags from cathedral to homes. Belgian colors fly on buildings and hotels while English and French ensigns join the display. Soldiers enter city dusty yet proud and eager to strike again. Rosettes of three nations worn by locals.
Twenty two officers and men of the Colorado National Guard were acquitted by court martial over the Ludlow battle with striking miners on April 20. The militia used machine guns devastating the miners tent city, killing thirteen strikers and five hundred camp residents fled in ruins. Three women and ten children were smothered to death as they sheltered in a cave during the siege.
Paris August 25 The Americans who have sought to enlist in the French army are found physically fit. In eleven of twelve cases they are in excellent condition for service. The English follow in physical efficiency. The Russians show the greatest rejection rate due to defective vision, with Poles and Italians next in line of disabilities.

Aug 25 Long Beach Scotch collie owned by Captain R Walton leapt from Pine Avenue Pier and saved King an Angora cat that fell overboard during a romp. The dog plunged thirty feet into the ocean seized the cat by the neck and swam until a boat rescued both.
Mr and Mrs A L Platt visited Riverside today meeting local residents and enjoying the city’s sights.
The Wiley family will return to Los Angeles after a short stay in Anity. Mr and Mrs B Laswell, recent arrivals from Los Angeles, will occupy the Wiley home at 102 Southeast Grand Boulevard.
Mrs A Ramsey is confined to her room in the California Hospital in Los Angeles and is reported improved after having been at the institution for a week.
A Daily Mail dispatch from St Petersburg reports the first major East Prussian clash ended in a Russian victory after six days of hard fighting. A record sugar beet harvest in Southern California drives seven refineries into full grinding as the current crop is projected to yield about 761000 tons and bring producers roughly $15,000,000.
