Washington reports note big bankers signaling government stance on a proposed European war loan. A loan totaling several hundred million dollars to France and Austria was discussed as part of the crisis measures.

Motorcycle officers and the Ceremony brothers suffered minor bruises after a collision at the Sixth Street and Victoria Avenue intersection. Williamson’s machine and the Ceremony’s machine collided as both groups turned, throwing the riders off. Both bikes sustained damage. the Ceremony boys had planned a fishing trip and had been about to ride all night.

Merrill Stalker and Frank Sho walter two Orange youths aged 16 and 138 were arrested here this morning by Constable Larrabee on telegraphic advice from their parents in Orange. They were placed aboard the 2 37 train this afternoon and turned over to their conductor to deliver to their parents at home. The older boy said they planned to go to Alvord where he had money due from a rancher Warren. They left Orange yesterday morning slept out overnight two miles west of town and were taken into custody upon reaching here. A small bedding bundle and two cheap revolvers were found. The younger boy drew his $10 bank account before running away. The older is a chronic runaway. the younger’s first offense.
On application of a majority of the stockholders, United States District Judge Burns tonight appointed Duval West of San Antonio as receiver for the San Antonio Uvalde and Gulf railroad and for the Medina Irrigation company. Bonds of the companies totaling 2,750,000 dollars are held by the Bankers Trust company of St. Louis.
The Corona Independent announces a for profit Automobile and Prize Giving Contest inviting women to enter via nomination blanks. Entrants earn 1000 votes and a receipt book for subscriptions with more votes awarded for each new sub. Prizes include an automobile, a player piano, and a diamond ring with 10 percent commission if no prize is won.
A clash between Maytorena and Carranza factions is postponed as Frederica V. Platt, prefect of Cannanea, mediates. Governor Liveras directs removal of German stores and orders expulsion of foreign merchants, with General Alvarado and others arrested and moved to Naco.
Aug 15 Bakersfield men Scott and J Davis left by car with smoke helmets for the Sierra above Dyeruible where miners are reported trapped by a fire. Fire Chief Schaffnit sent a fireman with helmets to assist in the rescue. Several gold mines are located near Kernville.
About half a million dollars in gold bullion arrived in Seattle aboard the steamer Admiral Evans. The cargo was taken on at Seward Cordova Valdez and Skagway, with the voyage bringing bullion from Alaska ports to the west coast.
Mrs Will Miehler and Mrs L R Snelling hosted a surprise party at the Wichler home 2014 Wasburn avenue last evening for Mr Miehler's birthday. Attendees enjoyed singing and dancing with ice cream and cake after refreshments. Music provided by Mrs James Bennett and Miss Agnes Aguilar.
