Dr Will Jones of Gray celebrated his 87th birthday October 7th by welcoming a long line of patients. Despite two serious operations and 34 blood transfusions, he remains active, delivering babies and treating townsfolk. He came to Gray in 1910 with fifty cents, started from scratch, and has long served the community through illness and epidemic.

First Aid Instructor Saves Child From Drowning
Alvin Vankirk a Corbin Red Cross first aid instructor happened to be at the Finley Drive In south of London when a two year old London boy drowned in a stock pond. He performed mouth to mouth resuscitation heart massage and artificial respiration extracting about a pint of water before rushing the child to Marymount Hospital where he revived. The child is the son of Mr and Mrs Billy Joe Ledford.

In Moscow two cosmonauts Lt Col Georgy Shonin and Valery Kubasov soared aboard Soyuz 6 to test welding metals in weightlessness as part of a potential orbital space platform program. Tass reported the craft maintained cabin conditions and the mission aims include docking experiments with additional ships.
