Jack Quindless, a brakeman, died in a wreck on the Iron Mountain near Witherspoon five miles from Arkadelphia. As a front car jumped the track, those in the rear piled up. Quindless, in the train middle, attempted to flee to the rear but was caught. Rescue took about thirty minutes. Both legs were crushed and he sustained internal injuries with death following soon after.
