Smith v State Upholds Anti Gambling Act in Garland Court
In Smith v State in Garland circuit court Judge Duffie upheld the anti gambling act as valid with the exception of section 4. Attorneys for the defense argued constitutional passage issues and conflicting penalties between the senate and house versions. The court ruled section 4 could be eliminated without invalidating the rest of the act or its purpose.

Memphis Boy Struck by Train Near Fayetteville
Willie Wolfe aged 12 claims he was driven from his Memphis home and struck by a train near Fayetteville. The engineer says the boy slept on the track and the train could not stop. The injuries include a broken arm hip several ribs and a fractured skull.

A Friend's Tribute to William Owen Rowlett
William Owen Rowlett died at his home near Guy Arkansas on June 3 1901 after a long life in Faulkner County. Born December 24 1857 he married Addie Bates January 29 1882 and is survived by five children. His jovial character and dedication to county friends and family are praised in a funeral tribute by W S Hendrickson urging peaceful rest.
