A prominent city merchant praises the Courier contest to boost circulation and encourages young women to seek subscriptions. The paper offers 10 000 extra votes with each 15 subscription and promises five costly prizes including diamonds to top contestants.
Henry 8 Bonsib a known prohibition worker was arrested then released on $1000 bond. He acted as an agent for the La Cabriza Mining Co a Mexican copper operation. Emery and Stewart were indicted in May for conspiracy to defraud by selling mining stock. Bonsib defends he believed the venture harmless and did not know of any fraud.
Mr. Cline, representing The National Rating League of Chicago, calls on local business men to solicit their patronage. The group collects bad debts and long standing accounts and publishes a Rating Book.
The Nebraska Supreme Court sustains a law passed by the last Legislature prohibiting liquor sales or gifts from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. The opinion was authored by Judge W. B. Roze.
St Gabriel’s Catholic Church lists services for Sunday November 14 with a 6 30 a m first Mass 8 00 a m second Mass and a 10 00 a m High Mass for the Knights of Columbus.
The season began last Wednesday with plentiful game across the state. Quail prospects look good but daily bag limits apply. quail hunting with dog and gun allowed from November 10 to January 1, while waterfowl may be hunted September 1 to April 1 with limits of fifteen birds per day. Boat hunting for waterfowl is restricted to row or push boats, and certain species are protected. Sunday hunting is prohibited for all game and landowner consent is required for hunting on others’ land.
Ross Jones broke his left arm after a playmate pushed him down stairs at the Highth Street school building on Tuesday. He was bruised otherwise and Dr Porter reduced the fracture. he is reported to be getting along nicely.
Prof Winslow Upton at Ladd Observatory Brown University reports Halley's comet is faint about twelfth magnitude. Observed with a twelve inch telescope, the comet should be visible through a telescope now and with the naked eye in January.
The Motor Car Company from Lexington, Kentucky is assured a site. Lexington failed to keep the existing plant, but Mr. Stoops, contracted to build the new plant here, has been instructed to proceed and get the project moving soon, signaling an upcoming industry in the city.
The funeral was conducted at Grand Avenue M E Church with Rev St Clair and Drs Marlatt and Smith officiating. A quartet sang and Rev St Clair delivered the eulogy highlighting White’s sixty three years as a class leader and his steadfast faith under the shadow of the Almighty. Floral tributes testified to the esteem for him as relatives from a distance attended. Dr Frederick White, the son, could not attend due to his wife’s illness.
Herman L. Adams and his wife of near Alpine bought the W. R. Breece farm north of Columbia in Columbia township. Adams sold his place to Mrs. Wesley Handley. The deal closed Monday.
