The Department of Agriculture estimates grain rust causes annual losses of about 40 million dollars. Breeding resistant varieties is the main control method, while smut in grain may be reduced by hot water seed treatment. Conquering smut and rust could greatly raise future grain yields.

The Connersville Odd Fellows and neighboring towns held a memorial service last Sunday with grave decorations at the cemetery and an address by Rev. T. G. Beharrell of New Albany at the First Presbyterian Church. About 150 members led by a drum corps attended the cemetery rites before gathering for the ritualist ceremony.

Mrs. Will Van Buskirk stayed with Mrs. Fiores. John L. Manlove is having lumber sawed for his house. Children’s exercises Sunday drew a large crowd and praise for Sunday School. Rev. Shearer spoke briefly as the program concluded.
City of Connersville warns water rents must be paid by June 15 1900 or water will be turned off per city ordinance.
