A survey of items notes the Episcopal church fair planned for October and the Unitarian fair in November. Several Concord residents including Miss Lily Hurd and families on Monument Street are mentioned with home purchases, moves, and school starts.
Concord Junction firemen defeated Concord Centre in an eight inning baseball game played Wednesday evening September 20. Hartnett hit a home run for the Centre and the Junction lineup featured Akers Carroll Reiley Lawrence Hartnett Wallace MacLean Shellac Ryan while Hartnett fanned 16 to lead the Junction to a dominant 16 to 1 victory. Pholen Lemieux wife of Joseph Lemieux died suddenly at her home in Concord on Tuesday September 19 at age fifty six. A requiem mass was held by Father Ryan at St Bernard's Church on Thursday morning September 21, and interment followed in the family lot at St Bernard's cemetery with bearers James Finan John Hanley James Powers and Robert Woodlock.
Miss Betty Dumaine daughter of F C Dumaine of Nine Aére Cor ner won first in open hunters on her horse Pat Rooney and second in heavyweight hunters aboard Glen Morris. She and Miss Ruth Neyhart led the best three horse hunt team with Pat Rooney Glen Morris and Blackthorn. Mrs Cora Brown of Elmst traveled to California on a business trip.
Miss Helen A Legate serves as delegate from the Concord Association for the Parent Teachers convention to be held in Gloucester October 4 to 6. Miss Ruth Wood plans study in physical education at Posse Gymnasium Boston. Miss Marion Hudson works at John Hancock Life Insurance under Dr Ignatum Haines. Delegates represented Concord at the American Legion Auxiliary State Convention September 22 and 23, earning an award for increased membership. The first Concord Parent Teachers meeting of the year is set for Eaton Hall October 2 with a reception for teachers followed by an entertainment led by Rev Gail Cleland.
Miss Gertrude Ware Towle daughter of Mrs George W Towle of Concord wed Robert Stuart Christie of New York son of the late Dr Samuel A Christie and Mrs Christie in Trinitarian church. The bridal party included Miss MaMargaret Towle maid of honor and Mrs Helen Towle Moulton matron of honor with bridesmaids Evelene M Towle and Charlotte F Towle. Dr James Christie of Littleton attended the groom. ushers Myron Park Guy E Moulton Ward Brackett Franklin Epps John Altman. The ceremony featured white satin gown with Brussels lace and orchids. reception followed in the church parlor. The couple will reside in New York City where he is in business.
Elizabeth R Wheeler of Concord has rejoined Mount Holyoke College as secretary to the dean after graduating in 1921. Beatrice G Lee and Elizabeth Giles return for their senior year as the college opens with about 770 students. Enrollment includes students from 35 states Canada Canal Zone Ceylon China Japan Siam Hawaii France and Czechoslovakia. Two new buildings a science building and a residence hall are under construction to meet growing demand.
Millbrook Farm formerly housing the school was sold in three parcels. The dwelling goes to Mr and Mrs G P Wilson of Arlington, the school house to Mrs Helen S Pearson of Somerville, and a cottage on the Cambridge Turnpike to John Smith of Concord. Possession is set for the end of September. The total consideration is reported around $25,000.
Word comes from Hemet California that Walter A Carr formerly Concord town clerk now a Hemet resident has been honored by his ranch being chosen as the model small acreage fruit ranch of California. The 10 acre land features a two crop orchard of apricots and peaches with Jersey dairy and poultry setups. The University of California extension department made the selection.
