The Union Congregational church will host a Sunday morning service with a theme The Fun of Youth. A children's sermon plus a Christian Endeavor meeting at six o'clock will focus on reorganizing for fall studies and activities and are open to all. Encourage the young people to attend.
The CM and H Bus line departs Maynard for Sudbury at 7:00 PM and 10:15 PM on Saturdays. Return trips from South Sudbury Post Office depart at 7:30 PM and 10:45 PM.
Mr and Mrs L A Sebastian at Central Square receive a new Chalmers sport model car. Mise Alice visits EB Holton's home Sunday. West Acton firemen invited to Groton Oct 12 for a town program. West Acton firemen attend Acton Fair in new caps donated by C H Mead. Rev Russel May of Acton Center preaches at Baptist church Sunday. Miss Mildred Gallant sings a solo in her usual pleasing manner.
Miss Mary Riley of Lincoln visited Concord Junction Tuesday. Mr and Mrs A H Converse stayed with Nas hua relatives over the weekend. Miss Marion Taylor returned to Dalton Massachusetts to teach. Miss Margaret Cutler joined R J Redday Co Boston office. John MacEacheth resumes studies at St Johns Seminary Brighton after summer break. Miss Miriam Russell of Cambridge and Miss Marjorie Wetherbee from Putney Ga visited town this week.
Funeral services for Isaac Newton MacRae were held at the Congregational Church Lincoln at 3 p.m. on Friday Sept 21. Masons from Corinthian Lodge Concord formed a guard of honor at the casket and the service included a Masonic funeral at the new cemetery Lincoln. MacRae had lived in Concord and Lincoln and served as Chief of the Fire Department and treasurer of the Lincoln Grange. He leaves wife Erie Lowden Mac Rae and five children Rothwell Ethel Sidney Nellie and Alvord six brothers three sisters and a nephew.
In a two hour town hall session Concord chooses to indemnify residents against damages from state road work on Lexington road. George Albee clashed with Road Commissioners in a heated vote that passed with few dissenters, amid costs of meetings and notices.
A social gathering at the home of Mrs. % on Lexington Road featured sixty young ladies at a novelty shower for Miss Josephine Fitzgerald. Pink and white festoons with autumn leaves decorated the venue, with solos by Mrs. James Broderick and Anna Flavin and many group songs. Guests traveled from Boston Cambridge Arlington Belmont and Maynard.
Purington Marrs survived a dramatic accident at the American Powder Company when he fell from a telephone pole and grabbed a live wire. A bystander alerted workers who shut off power, saving him as he dangled by the wire until rescued. He remained conscious throughout most of the ordeal despite severe burns.
Maynard Emma K Haynes visits Kingston while Mrs Charles Courtney stays with Mrs R Kitchen in Mooseup. A rain postponed Maynard Conard baseball game. Maynard High scheduled to open football season vs Concord High at Crowe Park Grounds with strong local team ready to win.
Street commissioner John Driscoll reports Powdermill Road should be finished by November 1 and about 1500 feet will be open later this week. He also flags progress on Main Street and Ben Smith Bridges, with Main Street to receive Bituminous Macadam surfacing, and Ben Smith Bridge graded and oil coated. Walnut Bridge nearly complete, to open by week’s end, with oil coating and spring macadam follow up. Sidewalks gain tar coatings improving condition.

J Madison Fairbanks New York City visitor in town two weeks. Rev Pas Harris Drake Marlboro preached at the Universalist Church with eloquent sermon and good music. Mr and Mrs William Crosby Maynard Street with children John and Carol spend week in New Hampshire visiting Theodore Chamberlain former resident. Annual meeting of the W C T U at Mrs J B Case Maynard Street Thursday afternoon at 3.00. Mr and Mrs H L Jones Prospect Street returned from motor trip through New York State visiting Niagara and Saratoga.

Mr and Mrs Frank Sanderson and Mr and Mrs George Gutteridge marked wedding anniversaries this week with Sanderson celebrating 21 years and Gutteridge 25. Both couples are long time Maynard residents. Sanderson serves as Town Clerk and Gutteridge is a prominent jeweler and former town official. All are members of Union Congregational Church.

A miscellaneous shower was tendered last week to Miss Brooks Davis who is to wed Vincent next. Mrs. Robert Christie (Miss Fowle) and many friends were present. Numerous beautiful gifts were received and everyone enjoyed the event in good time.
