Maynard Gridders Open Season Against St Mary's Brookline
Maynard High School football fans ready Alumni Field next Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. kickoff as Coach Will DeRosa leads a rebuilt Maynard squad against St. Mary's of Brookline in a storied rivalry. Maynard faces injury and inexperience but hopes to upset the pre season favorites with veterans at ends and tackles and a solid backfield. St. Mary's, under new coach Lou Basio, relies on Captain John Shaughnessy and Pat Nee to pace the attack as the teams renew their annual clash dating from last year's 6–0 Maynard win. Fans are urged to attend for the matinee and band performance.
