Forests as Crops and News Influencers in Canada and U S
The Quebec Chronicle Telegraph reports rising forest use figures and waste. It breaks down the yearly consumption by sector: 3.4 percent commercial cut, 22.7 percent pulp and paper, 30.9 percent fuel wood, 5.6 percent exports, and 40.8 percent lumber and miscellaneous products. The piece argues forests are a crop with a cycle longer than grain, demanding forethought for best returns. It notes pests and fires degrade about one eighth of the yearly usage.
