Percy M. McCormick former Rexall Store owner at West Concord died at Boston City Hospital from a self inflicted gunshot wound. He was found near his home on Massachusetts Avenue South End Boston dazed and with a gun in his hand. He had divorced his first wife Hilda Luker of Provincetown and was separated from his second wife Laura Carpenter of Derby Street West Concord now living in Brookline.
George A. Richardson administrator orders a 3-3-3 fire alarm to sound an hour before the ERA WPA paymaster arrives. Supervisors will be alerted to assist with checks. Fire engineers set to activate on the Acton system to ensure timely payment.
Three people including 6 year old Alice Casey of Arlington were severely injured in a hit and run on the Post road Sudbury last night. Laura Ryan and Pauline Ryan of Arlington were also injured along with the Casey child. All were taken to Marlboro hospital with cuts abrasions and a possible fractured tally. Witnesses said a car in the opposite lane swung into their path causing the crash. Police chief Seneca W Hall and Patrolman Thomas W Burns investigated and ruled out the pursuing car as responsible. Mrs Casey's condition was listed as favorable and recovering from shock.
Rev George L Thurlow leads midweek services followed by Standing Committee meeting. Halloween party for the Young People's Club Saturday at The Manse. Sunday worship at 946 am with church reports on attendance. Church school at 930 am and Young People Club 700 pm led by Herbert Nelson. Men’s Club chicken sale Tuesday.
Acton Joint installation of Edward Quimby Unit Woman's Auxiliary officers took place October 24 at G A R hall West Acton. Marietta Conway of Groton installed the officers including President Charlotte Gallagher and an extensive staff. Commander George L Towne, last surviving Isaac Davis Post member, attended in his 94th year. Brass quartet from Newton Post provided music as guests from nearby posts and organizations observed the ceremony. A collation followed the ceremony.
Maynard Maynard Lodge I O D D and Weston staff will handle installation ceremonies followed by a collation under Oliver Trees. Elected officers include Archibald MacPherson noble grand Walter Olsen vice grand Robert Lester recording secretary Albert Hodgess financial secretary and George A Jamieson treasurer. Lester attended the OOF Recording Secretaries Association of the State annual meeting and banquet held Saturday at Cambridge.
At a recent Somerville County Post meeting Commander presided as a collation was served by Maynard Post. Maynard Post elected George Outis as commander Ernest Johnson senior vice commander William McCarthy junior vice commander John Peterson quartermaster Michael Towler judge advocate William Morrill officer of the day and Joseph Boothroyd chaplain.
The Concord Rotary Club met at noon Thursday in the Colonial Inn. President EB Payson and speaker E Fred Callen drew earnest attention as the group accepted an invitation.
Nearly two hundred fifty Red Cross representatives from Concord and surrounding sections attended a regional conference. Charles G. Edgarton presided. Rev. George Loring Thurlow gave the invocation. H Whitemore Brown welcomed delegates to Concord. Sessions covered relief and prevention of suffering, home service, life saving and first aid, safety, and an air and highway accident program. A rollcall discussion, a public health play, and a film titled The Greatest Mother closed the day.

William Stockwell won the 10th Mid-Representative district in a Maynard special election to fill a vacancy. He carried every town and his home town with wide margins, defeating John A. Driscoll who praised Stockwell's clean campaign. Observers see the result as a local-issue verdict with Republicans citing national tone.

A Girl Scout Rally will be held on Friday November 1 at 7 30 PM in the Harvey Wheeler school where merit badges will be awarded Ruth Waite will receive the Golden Eaglet, the highest award.
Henry Mahion of West Concord presided at the Walden Royal Arch Chapter installation in Concord's Masonic Temple on Monday. Lindsey N. Smith received the High Priest jewel from Grand Secretary Raymond T. Gowan and officers praised the new leadership. Guests included Rt. Ex. George H. of Watertown and Past Grand Ex. George French of Waltham. Eugene L. Storey was elected Master Elect.

Members and guests gathered for a Concord Woman's Club event at Mone Unitarian church. Performers included Mrs Charles W Chené, Miss Cynthia Hoar, Mrs Ben L Wilson, soprano, Claire Kent violinist, Mrs Roger D Swaim mezzo soprano, with Mrs Burleigh L Pratt as accompanist and Mrs Marvin C assisting. The vestry of the First [Church] hosted the event.
