In a Monday evening melee in front of the Middlesex house on Main street Henry Sermon was stabbed in the abdomen by Dominick Gentilli while another lodger was cut on the hand by Fedele Borelli. Gentilli and Borelli, both barbers, faced court with Gentilli bonded and Borelli sentenced to a year in the reformatory. police consider increasing night patrols.
Miss Frances Bent of Lowell was at home over Sunday. Mail carrier Fred A. Noyes returns to duty after a week's vacation. Miss Hattie A. Parmenter has come back from Rhode Island. A Forest City dispatch reports Ute Indians promise no disturbance while tribe representatives go to Washington to present grievances to the government. Chief Redcap resists sending Ute children to school. Utes camped at Thunder Buttes near the Bad Lands. all, including women, are armed as four cavalry troops arrive from Fort Des Moines and Downs with 20 policemen approach the camp.
President Dutcher of the National Association of Audubon Societies warns at the annual meeting that crop losses from insect pests amount to about $800,000,000 annually as bird numbers fall. He says the public tolerates this destruction of crops valued at hundreds of millions due to fewer insectivorous birds.
Lincoln Neb Oct 30 Mayor Brown said Japanese laborers who left quarantine at Alvo without permission will be isolated in empty box cars on a Lincoln side track until there is no danger of disease spread. The demand came from Japanese Consul Shimizu of Chicago.
