Couple celebrates 49th wedding anniversary in Concord

Mr and Mrs George B Clark of Lexington Road observed their 49th wedding anniversary on Saturday October 24. They have two sons Myron of Farmington Connecticut and Lawrence B of Concord and a daughter Mrs Anna M Thorpe of Concord plus several grandchildren. The couple are well known locally and have lived in Concord for many years. Mr Clark is a well known farmer.

Concord Minute-Men Chapter Installs New Officers

Concord Minute-Men Chapter D Veterans Association installed new officers at the Old Mill Dam tea room on October 20 with nearly 40 members present. Fred erick H. Sullivan Jr. was named commander. other officers include George Tobin, William L. McCarthy, Harold E. Clapp, Rex Morgan, Edward C. Maguire, and Joseph M. Dee. Retiring commander B Alcott Pratt joined the board of trustees for three years.

Concord High Girls Field Hockey Triumph at Lexington

Concord high girls field hockey team defeated Lexington by 20 in Lexington with Doris Gerow and Barbara Hughes scoring. In the second match the Concord seconds also won 20 with Sue Baron and Kathleen Dee scoring. This was Concord’s second win of the season with one remaining game against Maynard High on November 6.

Voters in Concord and West Concord are reminded that polls open from 6 a m to 8 p m next Tuesday. West Concord Precinct 2 will vote at Harvey Wheeler School Hall while Concord Precinct 1 will vote at Veterans Building.

Yale gifts tag day fundraiser underway in West Concord to send Christmas presents to local service members. A wide coalition including West Concord Grange Concord Lodge IOOF West Concord Woman's Club Catholic Daughters of America Ladies Union P T A Sea Scouts and Helping Hands Society backs the drive. Volunteers will wrap packages with Boy and Girl Scouts assisting. the committee seeks names of service members from relatives or editors to ensure no one is overlooked.

Funeral rites for Frank E. Oliver held at Sleepy Hollow

Masons of Mount Vernon Lodge led the committal for Frank E. Oliver 74 a former resident who died Friday in Seebring Florida. Interment was in the family lot. his wife had died four years earlier. Connie Atkins a former Middlesex School and Harvard junior varsity player noted.

Dr Gilgut Speaks at Concord Rotary on Nursery Work

At the 470th Concord Rotary Club meeting held at the Colonial Inn, Dr C J Gilgut head of Nursery Culture at the State Department of Agriculture spoke on Experimental Nursery Work. President Floyd Verrill announced plans for Rubinoff and his Violin at the Veterans Building on November 6. A joint meeting with the Concord Lions Club was invited for November 10 at 6 14 PM at the Old Mill Dam Tea Room.

Concord Grange elects new master and officers

Concord Grange P of H held its officer election Tuesday at Biks upper hall. Maude W. Tompkins was named master replacing Elizabeth L Dwyer. Major officers were elected and installation will follow. A Ladies Friendly Circle supper preceded the meeting and the next gathering is set for November 17 with no meeting November 8 due to the state election.

Concord Man Dies After Short Illness

Nicholas Jacobson 99 Thoreau Street, Concord, died Sunday at home after a brief illness. Funeral Wednesday at his home with Rev. George Loring Thurlow of Leominster officiating. burial in Sleepy Hollow cemetery. Jacobson born in Gottland Sweden March 14 1872, lived in Concord 60 years. formerly a gardener active in Masonic lodges. Wife Mette Jensen Jacobson survived along with several Concord children. they recently observed their 45th wedding anniversary.
