Maynard High School routs Lexington 13 to 0, tying for Middlesex League leadership. Alumni and local fans describe a strong defensive effort, with Ward and Reader keying a solid line and Lou breaking through on defense.
The People's Theatre launched a writing contest in early weeks of school to spark interest in great statesman Alexander Hamilton. A $3 prize was offered for the best composition from Fifth and Sixth Grades, Junior High, Hull High School and Senior School with winners listed as Albert Bachrach and others receiving honorable mentions for their essays.

Maynard Auxiliary hosts a whist night at WWW headquarters Friday night raising funds for a social for disabled veterans at the Bedford U S Veterans Hospital. Another whist for hospital aid planned for next Friday. A Department meeting at Dorchester next Saturday will be attended by Margaret Murray Mary Cheney and Mrs Margaret Hird.

A Halloween party is planned for Thursday or next week with a playlet In the Screen by Marion Whitney Elon Sheridan Frank Case Hazel Bumpus Mabiel Martin. The Sudbury Woman's Club will observe Guest Night on Wednesday evening November 4 at the Methodist church. Entertainers include Marion Davison Duffee dramatic soprano Marjorie Shepherd and Miriam Alexander. Refreshments will be served and each member may bring one guest only. No admission by payment of entrance fee.
Concord's Men's club hosts a five course Italian dinner at 6:30 p.m. chaired by Charles R. Voigt. John Tombeno will perform, tickets sold in advance at the committee or Richardson's Drug Store before noon November 3. Following dinner James A. G. Slavey of Davey Tree will present world travel photographs showing Mr. and Mrs. Davey’s expedition with notes on landscapes and flora.
Mr and Mrs Jesse F Knowlton celebrated their fiftieth anniversary at home on Commonwealth Ave West Concord. The Ladies Union of the West Concord Universalist Church hosted an afternoon party with an anniversary cake and a gold purse for the bride. They were wed October 27 1881 in Lowell by Rev Bicknell and later lived in Chelsea and Peabody before moving to West Concord about ten years ago. Mr Knowlton is a builder and their family includes Frank W Knowlton Hazel K Morton and Dr John C Knowlton with seven grandchildren. The Enterprise offers warm congratulations.
Andrew Hepburn Jr a Concord Harvard sophomore was rescued Monday after his 30 foot sloop Pemaquid ran afoul of a Sunday squall off Minots Light. He was with Christopher Birkhead of Baltimore while R Hewlett of Cedarhurst aided by a coast guard patrol.
The obituary notes Mrs Leland of Arlington attended Pleasant Street Congregational Church services led by Rev Lawrence Barber Day. She was a member of the West Concord Woman's Club the Women’s Christian Temperance Union the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Animal Rescue League. She advocated world peace.
Frank Kiernan, executive secretary of the Massachusetts Tuberculosis League, spoke at Harvey Wheeler School auditorium on the White House Conferences on child welfare. The meeting, led by President McAuley, included bylaw changes and a songs program by Mrs. Clarence G. Manter. Principal Chittan reported on the school banking plan.
Mrs Stockbridge district director paid three official visits to Marlboro Federated clubs last week. She visited Ye Colonial lab, Tomé of Mrs Winfield Temple, the Tuesday club celebrated its 40th birthday with a party attended by Mrs Carl Schrader state president, and Mrs Edith Nourse Rogers addressed Marlboro Woman's club with brief remarks.
Local committee appeals for donations and volunteer effort to aid the unemployed this winter. Suggestions include groceries from stores, usable clothing, employee shares, and charitable fundraisers tied to the Community Chest. The National Committee headed by Walter Gifford is guiding actions.
The Concord Woman's Club stages a satirical comedy on November 5 and 6 to benefit the Hindoo Scholarship Fund. The cast features H Whittemore, Botjsick, Miss ing J, Goordss, and others, with twelve to fifteen young show girls. Children and adults will both enjoy the production at the English home setting with twenty three servants.
Fitchburg resident Maynard Tor Hartquist was arrested by Officer Howard Johnston after a hit and run on Great Road. A car struck six boys homeward from a football game at Alumni Park, leaving the scene. Injured youths included Francis Punch, Francis Vincent, Louis Graceffa, Joseph Androscovich, Michael Zwirbla, and John Sokolowski. treated by Dr. Raymond Hooper.
The Acton Congregational Church plans a commemorative sermon by Rev. Ralph A Barker for his fifteenth year as pastor. A preparatory vestry service is set for Friday October 30 at 7 PM with a Communion on Sunday. Charles F Hurley will attend the Acton Agricultural Association banquet on November 2 with Vice President George A Richardson. Mrs George A Richardson has returned home after surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.
A verdict of two thousand dollars was awarded to William Moore of Main Street Maynard for injuries when a truck owned by T Stuart Company Newton backed into a truck owned by A W Davis Co Vet aera h Mr Moore was riding. Aries Lever of Maynard was attorney for Mr Moore in the Superior court trial with many witnesses from Maynard and Concord summoned.
More than 200 attended a joint installation of officers for Frank J. DeMars Post American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary at Odd Fellows hall. County and state officers, town officials, clergy, and legion posts from nearby towns joined in the ceremony with remarks from Commander Doherty and Mrs. Garrity, highlighting a patriotic town gathering and service to veterans and community.

Lydia Chittenden of Concord has been chosen as president of the House of Representatives, the governing body within Smith College's student government association. The election marks a leadership shift at the venerable Concord College campus.
