Concord Corinthian Lodge held its regular meeting at the Masonic Temple with a banquet. A degree was conferred on several candidates led by newly elected Worshipful Master A. Robert MacLeod Jr. Another degree was worked last evening and a further degree is planned for Friday night.
A Children’s Fair will be held at the First Parish Unitarian Church vestry on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parents and children are invited to attend this community event.
Concord High School tops Class D with four wins and 24 percent. Northbridge and Shrewsbury also hold four wins each, while Weston, Billerica, and Case trail with three or four wins and varied points in the regional standings. Hudson and Lexington sit in lower clusters in Class C as Maynard and Marlboro chase challenges.
Major John F Foster returns to the Concord police force and on night shifts a sergeant now outranks both a major and a captain. Marshall J Witherell leads night duty while John W Hagerty Jr a former U S Army captain also works nights.
Concord Veterans Housing Committee thanks local plumber Albert Coffey for supplying soil pipe after federal red tape hindered shipments. Materials arriving this week allow construction of the first two of 20 planned veteran homes, including one at 13 Laurel Street, though finishing all by Christmas is now doubtful.

Concord High’s Bernie Megin, a popular coach with a strong football record, has reportedly received offers to move to other positions, including an assistant coach role at Canisius College in Buffalo. He considered a leave of absence for an interview but may remain at Concord, as town consensus favors keeping the educator and coach who has built an unbeaten season and strong district standing.
