Carlisle farmer clears acres for hay pasture at Great Brook Farms

W Smith owner of Great Brook Farms in Carlisle and Concord selectman, cleared 10 acres of sprout growth to seed a hay pasture for his Holstein herd. The project, part of a broader soil conservation plan with the Middlesex County Soil Conservation District, includes drainage work, pond construction, and irrigation to lower feed costs and boost milk and butterfat production. All Concord public school classes will be closed Friday for the Columbus Day holiday. The closure affects the high school and district schools Harvey Wheeler and Peter Bulkeley. Classes resume Monday morning, October 15.
