The Knights of Columbus met at Monument Hall last week and decided to hold a whist event on Columbus Day. John Hutchinson chairs the committee with McKennie Frederick Ross Edward Ross and Ber e named to organize.
The DWL League was organized during the week at the lab rooms. Teams from Maynard Hudson Martin and Framingham attended the meeting and will open the first week in October. The season runs twenty four weeks with a prize and meals for the top bowlers.

Lexington records 27 degrees in a meadow and over half an inch rainfall on Sunday.
Rev W J Batt chaplain emeritus of the Mass Reformatory and Concord Junction’s oldest resident observed his 98th birthday at his home 19 Church Street on Wednesday. His family join in birthday messages and greetings sent by friends. Batt enjoys good health and keeps busy most days with family and community ties.
The Greenough Construction Company used a steam shovel to dig the cellar for Charles Davis's new house on Saturday. The operation drew considerable attention as the first steam shovel seen in the area for this purpose. Mrs. James A. Brown returned from a visit to Belgrade Maine, accompanied by her brother Mr. Penny of Saugus Mass.

Overseer Frederick Moreau presided at Concord Grange No. 160 in Town Hall. No degree work, but a short program featured The Prisoner’s Song by George O’Connor and Margaret Grimes Charleston display, harmonica pieces by William O’Connor Zelma Hinman Dorothy Miner violin piano duet, Highland Fling by Mary Culkins, and a chorus led by Mrs Catherine Sacha Wilson Benjamin Clark Edgar Clark. Mary Culkins concluded with a reading as dancing closed the lively evening.
West Concord notes the reopening of the School Savings Club in October. Officers aim for a fruitful year. pupils in upper grades may earn part of their weekly deposits. Since 1923 the club has promoted thrift with stars pins and a yearly certificate, with 1926–27 deposits totaling over 41 thousand dollars.
A baby health conference for preschool age children will be held Thursday afternoon October 13 from 3 to 6 at the Maynard High School under the Maynard Public Health Association. Miss Mary Ward public health nurse will direct, assisted by local physicians. The event aims to promote better baby health with weighing measuring and general examinations, with possible state representation.
James Lee, 30, of 37 Callender Street Dorchester, was found guilty by Judge Prescott in the District Court after pleading guilty to operating an automobile without a license and fined $25. He appealed and was held in $200. He was also found guilty of drunken driving and operating under the influence. the case continued until October 17.
An informal reception for club president Mrs Haps W Miller marked the start of Concord Massachusetts Women’s Club’s fall season at Town Hall. May Elliot Hobbs, a social worker and musician in England, presented an entertainment titled Scottish Folk Song and led a concluding social period.
A bowl of goldfish at the home of E C Barrett in Spokane focused sunshine through its lens and ignited a curtain, starting a small house fire. Firefighters were alerted by Barrett as the blaze spread briefly. the goldfish survived unharmed.
Frank Hood was installed as Noble Grand of Concord Lodge in Odd Fellows hall Thursday evening succeeding Wal eri B Renhault. The installing officer was Postmaster Charles 4H. Spaulding DDGM, assisted by Bethel Lodge Arlington members led by Herald Pierbert B Bolser. Other officers installed include Robert McAbley vice grand John Pyle recording secretary and Frank G Leighton treasurer. Speeches were given by the district deputy grand marshal Don L Fletcher and other officers.
Concord October meeting covers lighting funding, new almanac plans, traffic and parking rules, trunk line contact with Lincoln officials to improve Cambridge turnpike, airport requirements by Raymond Baldwin, factory-automation scenes shown, and a luncheon organized by Thomas Prencergast.

President Mrs. Rachel McCleary welcomed members, announced year plans, and delegates were chosen to the State Federation meeting on Oct. 19. A reception honored Mrs. Carl L. Schrader and district director H. Sawyer. A recital by Margaret Cummings with Rosetta and Elsie accompanying followed. A whist and bingo event is slated for Oct. 24 to Benefit shrubbery funds for Summer Street school grounds as part of the Town Beautiful program. Tea concluded the gathering.

The Acton Agricultural Association board met at the Woman's Clubhouse on Thursday evening October. Reports from Acton Fair show a profit with the cash balance and property assets rising though the net may not be large. A committee will arrange a turkey dinner for members at the annual meeting in November.
The inaugural Acton Woman's Club session is planned with Mrs. Emma Sell Schofield as host and Edith Nourse Rogers among speakers. Judge Bowen presides over a food sale event to follow.
Mizpah Rebekah Lodge held an installation Thursday evening at Odd Fellows Hall with Miss Florence D D P and Marlboro in charge. Officers inducted included Sylvia Noble Grand Eleanor Jones Annie Morris Edith Laudenstein Pearl McAnwlin Mary Jones Ella A Price Mildred Jones and others. Past grand collax was presented and supper served at 6 30 followed by a brief business session.
