The Concord High School Senior Class under Mrs. Gertrude Rideout staged Comus with Lavina Willis as the Lady and Mary and Deborah Pike as the attendant spirit. The town mourns Helen Hird aged as neighbors recall her playful presence in Maynard. A Magna Grange and Spanish War Auxiliary color bearer she is survived by her parents and sister Miss Alice Hird. Funeral Thursday a requiem mass at St Bridget's church at 10 o'clock.
Miss Anne M. Kane daughter of Mrs. Annie Kane and George B. Rago son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rago were married Saturday at St. Bridget's Church in Maynard. The ceremony was at 10 am with Rev. Walter Roche officiating. Attendants included Mrs. Joseph Delaney and Francis Noze. The couple planned a reception and a wedding trip before settling in Hudson.

Harry V. Madden, Democratic town committee chairman, becomes candidate for Representative in the district including Hudson, Maynard, Roxborough Stow. James J. Mansfield Post 158 A L met in the Veterans building with Russell F Parsons presiding for the first time. A public installation of officers is set for Columbus Day evening October 12 with Rev Robert J White national chaplain officiating. Selectman H Whittemore Brown chairs the committee.
At the meeting of the West Concord Ladies Union last Tuesday at noon in the church parlors Mrs Frank Ss Walker and Herbert L Day along with Mrs Henry Johnson and Mrs West attended.
Albert Slayton Holden of Worcester and Alberta Wells of Concord wed in Albany after leaving Worcester early Thursday. The ceremony occurred with no attendants, followed by a trip to Niagara Falls and scenic drives around Lake Champlain and Lake George. Wells, a Concord High School and Massachusetts School of Art graduate, has led a children’s club and worked in kindergarten. Holden, a Worcester Trade School and high school graduate, works as a pattern maker for Wickwire Spencer. They plan to reside at 24 Second Street, Worcester, after their honeymoon.
Barry served as guest speaker recounting Commodore John Barry life and history. Gov. Ely signed the proclamation naming September 14 as Commodore John Barry Day. Robert Donovan presided as county board president. Other speakers included Rev. Walter Roche John Downley Edward Brennan and Francis Shannon. A purse of gold was presented to Francis Shannon.
Italy plans its largest celebration this year with a parade route from Plans quarters at Eagles hall through the main streets to Parker street hall. The local legion aids the parade led by the Rossini band of Natick which will give a concert at Parker street hall followed by evening entertainment and dancing.
Several young men who recently took a Civil service exam, Harold Johnson, Vodoklys and Michael Veleno, are noted in the Maynard report.
The Maynard Post VFW lodge hosted a weekly whist party Friday night at its headquarters with players including Mary Weaver Amy Ryan James Farrar Gilson Joyce and Charles Ryan. Another session is planned for next Friday night.
Delegates from several states and Canadian provinces attended a three day session of the International Association of Governmental Labor Officials in Boston. They toured the Wayside Inn estate in Sudbury and held discussions on National Recovery Act topics with figures like US Labor Statistics chief Isadore Labin and Quebec Labor Minister Gerard. A music program followed the dinner.
Lindsey N. Smith of Maynard was elected Excellent High Priest at the Walden Royal Arch Masonic Temple annual meeting. She succeeds James FP Powers of Lincoln. Other officers elected include H. Mahion Foley of West Concord as King and Clarente H. Hewitt of West as Scribe.
The Concord Female Charitable Society will hold its first Fall meeting on Wednesday October 10 at 2 pm. Mrs Henry F Smith of 17 Sudbury Road is listed as the host.
The West Acton Woman's Club hosts an evening with Commander Groton and Mrs. Conway, featuring a Gapon-furnished concert and orchestra. County officials urge action against flag disrespect in schools, as Concord prepares for a 300th anniversary celebration and the Hapgood Wright Semi Centennial Fund nears seven thousand dollars.
State and regional authorities urge property owners along the river to connect with the common sewer as part of the Crowe Park river bank health project and related extension. Local health officials push this action during ongoing river bank improvements.
Maynard residents will attend a special town meeting Monday October 16 to vote on two warrant items. One asks action on the Assabet House pit and the other proposes establishing a municipal light plant.
