Fire on Saturday evening destroyed the upper structure of the Maynard Mansion on Maynard Hill. Alarm sounded at 5 15 and flames broke through the roof soon after firefighters arrived. Fire fought between partitions with weak stream pressure due to height. Cause unknown. Loss about 1000. Property owned by Charles Baker and occupied by six families. Household furniture and utensils removed.

Death of Mrs. Alice Hosey from Spanish influenza
Mrs. Alice Hosey wife of John E. Hosey died at home after a one week illness caused by Spanish influenza. Funeral held at St Bernard church with Rev M P Mahon officiating and burial in St Bernard cemetery. Survived by four children Ruth John Margaret and Ralph and by her husband and her father living with the daughter. Mrs Hosey was a member of the Ladies auxiliary A O H and attended the funeral.

Reduced Middlesex and Boston Street Railway Service
The Middlesex and Boston Street Railway will curtail service on main lines and several branches due to financial strain and staffing shortages. Lexington Woburn Wellesley Needham and Hopkinton Westboro lines will be suspended with changes to early morning departures and extended night runs. main line schedules shift to 6 02 a m start and 10 minute headways until 9 am then 15 minute headways until 3 pm, with eight minute rush service. The Bemis line stays at a half hour then 45 minutes after 7 30 pm.
