Last Rites Held for Prominent Surgeon
Funeral services for Dr Edward Roland Cutler were held Saturday at the home of Atherton W Rogers in South Sudbury. The Boston born physician died September 25 at his daughter’s home, after months of ill health. He practiced in Hartford and Waltham, served as assistant surgeon then surgeon of the First Heavy Artillery during the Civil War, and is credited with Massachusetts first appendicitis operation. He leaves one daughter and three sons, with interment at Mt Wadeworth Cemetery South Sudbury.
