Gift from ex ruler George Stansfield and others honors birth

Ex ruler George Stansfield and Noble J Morton with Mrs Frank Dale honor a newborn daughter born November 19 at a local hospital. The ceremony involved Concord figures including Mrs Ralph W of Concord and Mr John Dale of New York. Maynard and Concord groups held related gatherings at Monument Hall and East Cambridge branches.

Service Held For Julian DeCordova In Lincoln Home

The funeral of Julian DeCordova a Lincoln resident and noted art collector was held Sunday in his museum gallery. The 194 year old traveler and lecturer died last Friday at a rest home after months of illness. The body was cremated at Mount Auburn Cemetery and ashes buried on museum grounds. DeCordova founded a grand museum overlooking Sandy Pond road Lincoln built in 1882 and donated to the town for public use. He was survived only by a niece Mrs John Sanborn of Boston.

Cows Graze in Concord Square Prompt Patrol Response

Concord patrolman Thomas Finan of the Concord Police Department spotted three cows grazing in Monument Square during his holiday. He halted duties to roundup the herd and guided the cows back to their pasture before resuming his post.

Concord resident U S Marine Corps private first class Diskin 54 Thoreau Street is discharged after a year of service including time overseas at Pearl Harbor He returns home with his wife and four children and will resume duties at the Concord post office shortly.

Concord Council K of C will hold its next regular meeting Monday evening December 3 at 8 o'clock in Monument Hall clubrooms. Grand Knight Thomas J. Burke Jr. will preside. Last Saturday, members journeyed to Boston to host at the servicemen's headquarters.

Woman's Club Hears Talk By Mrs. F M Taylor

The Concord Woman's Club hosted guest speaker Mrs. Frank M. Taylor at the Girl Scout House. President Mrs. G Sherman Blair presided as Albert Schaal, eleventh district director, and Mrs. James H. Co, eleventh district chairman, attended along with district presidents. The talk was on “The World at the Moment.”

Mr and Mrs Alfred C Loring of 18 Highland Street West Concord celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary Wednesday The couple wed November 28 1900 and are active in local groups Mr Loring is a past commander of the Hosmer Camp USW Y veterans group and served in the Spanish American War.

Concord Man Appointed to Police Force

The Concord Board of Selectmen named John W. Hagerty Jr., 33, of West Concord, as permanent patrolman for the Concord police. He succeeds Mason G. Ross who resigned to take a job on Thoreau Street. Hagerty previously served as a special officer and is a former lieutenant who held command in World War II. He is married with children.

Memorial Rites for Ensign Thomas P. Brooks Jr

Memorial service in Trinity Episcopal Church Concord honors Ensign Thomas Perkins Brooks Jr a 21 year old Dover native killed in action over the Philippines. Brooks a Brooks School and Harvard alumnus enlisted in 1942 became a Naval Reserve torpedo bomber with overseas duty in 1944. He leaves parents two sisters and is the town of Concords 35th WWII casualty.

The Concord Red Cross workrooms in the old Concord High School building will resume this week. The sewing rooms will be open Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 to 4:00. The surgicals room will be open Wednesday evening 7:30 to 10:00 and all day Thursday.

Concord Child Killed By Car On Way Home From School

Services were held for five year old Carole Susanne Prentiss of West Concord after a fatal auto accident Tuesday. She was a Harvey Wheeler School pupil and daughter of Wendell R Prentiss. A brother Wendell survived, with many classmates present at the home service and burial at the Prentiss plot. The car involved was operated by Robert L Tet of Crescent Street, Stow, owned by John Lord of Stow. Patrolman William Biethy of the Concord Police and Dr O Clark of South Acton attended the scene.
