Father Given Jail Term for Alleged Aid

In Cambridge Middlesex Superior Court Frank Getaway 42 of Shrewsbury father of two serving time at Massachusetts Reformatory was sentenced to two years in the House of Correction for attempting to provide hack-saw blades to inmates. A reformatory officer testified a paper bag with four blades was found in a parking lot after his visit last summer. The two sentences run concurrently.

Chest Drive Falls Short of Quota by Thousand

Russell G. Oswald opened advise proceedings against Massachusetts Reformatory guard John J. McWilliams after three officers testified at the State House he was asleep at 4 am on October 15. McWilliams said he rested in the shower room to ease stomach cramps and did not know if he was asleep.

October building permits total 33 in Concord

Concord H Whittemore Brown reports 33 building permits issued in October totaling 155,845, down from 208,975 a year ago. Six permits were for dwellings with costs including 24800, 18500, 18000, and other projects 17800, 17000, 14000, plus 136200 for new construction and 19645 for additions and alterations.

Firefighters Launch Porch Light Campaign for Muscular Dystrophy

Concord volunteers the local Fire Department will start the Porch Light March on Sunday November 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Concord and Monday November 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. in West Concord. Residents may donate by leaving outside lights on during the siren hours.

Selectmen Release Town Affairs Dates

The board of selectmen set key town dates for business. The annual warrant closes December 5 and town report closes January 2, 1956. Citizens caucus is January 18, town election February 27, and town meeting follows.

Will Close Schools Again At Noon

Concord voters decide to continue the Wednesday Released Time program for grades 1 through 6 from December 7 to March 28 1956. Dismissals at noon will free teachers for parent teacher conferences remedial instruction and curriculum work. Also reports Emerson Hospital arrivals: a son for Mr and Mrs Mutty Jr and a son for Mr and Mrs Barker both in early November.

Concord official Arthur W. Parke dies at 52

Arthur W. Parke state tax official and Concord lifer died unexpectedly at Emerson Hospital after a brief illness. Born March 7 1914 in Concord he served since 1941 in Massachusetts government and held key roles including assistant income tax director and Special Investigations head. He was active in Republican circles and numerous local groups. He is survived by his mother his widow Gertrude Leary and children David Arthur and James.
