Marlboro hosts the 14th annual reunion of the Military Police of the 26th Division at the State Armory with about 100 members. Lt Col Arthur N Payne commanded the unit in France. William Donovan was the chief speaker. Officers elected: Everett E Pierce president, William L McBride vice president, Charles F Akeley treasurer, William F Murray secretary. Members came from Middlesex and Worcester counties, with guests from Omaha and New Jersey.
Henry Tolman of Middlesex Laundry hosted the Maynard nine and Littleton players in the town hall for a banquet after Maynard’s Middlesex League championship. The menu featured a turkey dinner with solos and dancing. Tolman financed the team from season start, supplying new uniforms and equipment, and presented gifts after the title win.
Maynard petitions show six recount requests at town clerk Frank Ganderson for four offices from the recent state election. Both major parties seek recounts for county commissioner and state senator races and for clerk of courts. A statewide recount of secretary of state votes may trigger further recounts next. The recount is expected to be held near Saturday.
A Maynard Grange delegation of eight members travels to Hartford Connecticut for the National Grange meeting next Friday to pursue the seventh degree. Local Red Cross continues year round aid with milk for schoolchildren and support for former service members. A 42 person first aid class meets at the high school Tuesday evenings. Maynard branch chairs Mrs Litchfield and Mrs Mahoney coordinate enrollment and solicitors listed among officers.
Harry Hadley Lehyde basso will present a program of old songs with new in The Village Singing Master at Union Congregational church next Sunday night at 7 30. The show includes Be fore the Microphone and a fifteen minute feature. The New York Times praised Lehyde as last night's best radio feature.
Mrs Grace Baker Little aged 79 passed away at her Acton home on Wednesday November 7. A long time Latin resident she came with her husband from Melrose and widow since December 1932. Funeral services were private with Christian Science rites at the Wyoming Cemetery Melrose. Undertaker Joseph Dee of Concord handled arrangements.
In a tight Intertown Bowling League contest at Lynch alleys Oilmatics edged Middlesex Laundry as Socke's Texaco defeated Gagne's Oil in another near night match. Large crowds watched both sessions.
The Rev. died in Brookline near St Paul after long service at First Church Nashua New Hampshire where he led for 26 years. He retired in 1909 after a major church event in Nashua. Born in Woburn he attended Concord Congregational rites marking the 260th anniversary. In recent years blindness limited his activities.
Town voters scheduled a Special Town Meeting for November 21 to approve funds for a highway department truck. Rumors claim proposals may seek to require appointing the Highway Surveyor under the Selectmen, with the current elected officer under threat of change.
Maynard Ave parish holds supper meeting at St George's hall with 30 visitors preparing for the annual canvass. Rev J C Kolb speaks. Loyalty Sunday is on November 26 with 10 45 service pledges and 4 pm confirmation by Rt Rev Henry K Sherrill. Canvass to follow November 25 to December 2 to raise a 3600 parish budget for 1985.
At the Congregational Church in Acton on Thursday November 15 the annual Chicken Pie Supper will be served followed by a play titled Squaring it with the Boss The cast includes Mr Dunn Elwyn H Hollowell Jimme Green ing C Taylor Beth Evelyn Hagen Aunt Clarissa Beths Aunt Aunt Emma Fairbanks Johanie Bender-Davit.
A Maynard held joint installation with State and County Legion guests at Odd Fellows hall. Edward Johnston served as toastmaster at a subsequent collation. Speakers included John J. Walsh, Cornelius Cuneen, Susan Esler, Ann Clark, and Catherine Sty. Officers installed spanned the Legion and Auxiliary with Arey Lawrence as commander and Minnie Downey as president.
A funeral is planned for tomorrow morning with services at the home at ten o'clock. Burial will take place in Amesbury after the services.
A new Veterans of Foreign Wars post has received its charter and will organize in West Acton. A meeting November 16 at the West Acton firehouse will nominate candidates and form the post with Deputy State Commander George F. Outus presiding.
The Maynard Cooperative Club weekly whist party on Monday night drew a good attendance. Prizes were awarded to several players including Ana Ojalehto Phyllis Vikoski Koreman Baker Kukkula Pat Hanson Amy Mrs. Bell and Mrs Hutton among others.
About 300 attendees joined the Acton Edwards Quimby Post 284 A L for its annual military ball in Exchange South Acton on Friday November 9. The event featured Chief and Mrs J H Neary of Natick Inspector Stephen Angleton of Natick Commander J F Mal Doyle and Mrs Doyle of East Acton along with Legionnaires and civilian guests.
Lieut Commander Fred Carlton aged 47, a retired officer who once served at the Pier in Boston and later supervised a federal building in Albuquerque New Mexico, was buried in a military funeral led by Frank J DeMars Post American Legion. He was born in Quincy and is survived by his mother.
The annual Fair of St George’s parish unfolds at Cooperative hall with a Friday party and musical program directed by James P King. Saturday features a comedy Double Crossed by Mr and Mrs Herold Taylor Keen Sie Fred Stokes and Palmer in costume party attire. Béaney chairs the general committee with Mabel Palmer and others handling tickets and tables.
A wedding service involving baeginger Auer of the Harvard School and Rev Edward Perry was held with a large bridal party. Miss Katharine carried lilies of the valley and gardenias, the maid of honor wore rust velvet, and bridesmaids wore green velvet with matching hats and slippers.

Mrs Daisy B Bruce Farquhar wife of Stuart Farquhar died at the family home on Harris street North Acton at 65. She was born in West Brookfield the daughter of William and late Mrs Bruce. She was a descendant of the Bruce family and had lived in Acton three years. She belonged to the Acton Woman's Club and the Afternoon at 2 o'clock service was officiated by Rev Glenn W. of the Acton Church with vocal selections. Pallbearers included brothers in law Doctors Robert Farquhar Andrew Farquhar Walter Farquhar and J McCarthy with nephew Malcolm Farquhar. Burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Concord Arrangements by Joseph Dee of Concord.
