Eddie Boyle, a respected retired sports official, criticizes Concord's Emerson Playground seating during Enterprise sports night. He urges townspeople to vote for new stands at the athletic field so families can attend games. His remarks were unsolicited but aligned with the Enterprise crusade for improved accommodations.
The Concord board of selectmen ruled that fire department equipment and personnel may not be used to pump out flooded cellars except in dire emergencies. In any such case the fire chief must report circumstances to the board and an appropriate charge will be made for the service.

Concord box 232 sounded for a minor fire believed to have started from rags in a closet at the Miller residence. Central and West Concord stations responded. It marked the 255th alarm of the year for local firefighters.
Cambridge resident Phillip Fariington of 45 Mount Auburn Street drove onto the B and M tracks near Concord depot at 1:00 am. Patrolman Dominic Pagano spotted the incident as trains slowed at Waltham and West Concord depots. A tow truck removed the car after the damage.
Concord area man Gordon Brown 34 of Independence Road dies when his car collides with a vehicle driven by Christopher Maguire 31 of Medford. Maguire is killed instantly and his wife and son are injured. Both Brown and Maguire are taken to Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Police say a truck in the center lane swerved prompting Maguire to veer and lose control, causing the fatal crash near Washington Street. Last rites were given to Maguire by Rev. Ernest A. Ford.
Concord guests include Dr William White executive secretary of Northeastern University as he discusses Running a University at the Girl Scout House. Mrs E Clifford Goodspeed presided with tea by Mrs Edward B Thomas. Next meeting on November 23 features Edward Rowe Snow as speaker.
Concord announces another pre school clinic at Alcott School next Wednesday afternoon November 18 at 3. Mothers may call the visiting nurse at Concord 465 from 8 30 to 9 am and 1 30 to 2 pm to attend or inquire.
Mrs Alice W Spencer of Lowell Road widow of Dr Norman C Spencer Concord suffered a broken leg at her home Sunday. She was transported to Emerson Hospital by the town ambulance and Concord firemen.
Box 45 was sounded for a minor fire caused by a short circuit of a light at 80 Laws Brook Road West Concord last Saturday. The same evening apparatus from Central and West Concord stations responded to an overflooded oil burner at the new Elks Home. Box 232 was sounded.
A Concord Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting was held Tuesday at The Fairy Way with President Laurence Petersen and Executive Director George Erickson presiding. It followed a similar discussion from the prior week on Christmas lighting for the business districts. further meetings were planned.
The League to Greet Concord Officials will host an informal reception for town and state leaders on Wednesday November 19 from 8 to 10 30 p m at Howard Johnsons. Richard W. Shaw son of Mr Mrs John H Shaw of Bradford Street returned home after nearly two years in the U S Army Finance Section in Germany He will live with wife and daughter Deborah in Swampscott upon separation from the Army This is his first reunion with Deborah since arriving in the country

Concord Red Cross officials announce the annual bloodmobile will stop at the vestry of First Parish Church on Wednesday December 9 from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling Concord 259. The 1953 fourth and final visit aims to collect 150 pints.

The Concord Community Council invites the public to an open meeting next Tuesday November 17 at Alcott School. Guest speaker Robert Mulford, collaborator with Harvard professor Lam He, will discuss population and growth trends affecting Concord and surrounding areas. Mulford holds leadership roles in Massachusetts community service and child protection groups, with introduction by John C. Palmer.
Concord police Sgt John T Foster and his wife Mrs Mary A Donovan observe their silver wedding anniversary at 15 Potter Street They were married in Fitchburg and have lived in Concord for years He is a World War I and II veteran with Marine service and decorations They have two children a daughter Mary and a son John Jr a high school varsity football player
The Concord school committee met twice last week to craft the proposed 1954 budget. Music teacher Mrs Barbara Vannah resigned after serving since 1951. A joint meeting with the citizens council is set for November 18.
Emerson Hospital reports two newborns this past week. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. George H. Gibson of West Concord on November 4. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. N Neal Stanley of Concord on November 8.
Chest X rays were taken of all junior and senior high school students about two years ago. No tuberculosis was found in this group. The Concord Tuberculosis Committee funds the survey.
