The Concord Rotary Club selected four high school seniors to attend its gatherings. Thomas Burak Douglas Caldwell Edward Chese and James Cole were chosen to gain exposure to Rotary activities and contacts.
Early Tuesday a fire at Acton Sanitarium in North Acton caused about 150000 in damage to the dormitory and gym wing. Victims include Bellows Farm Sanitarium employee Re'nart Anderson and patient John H. Quigley. both bodies recovered as firemen and rescuers aided others and treated injuries at the scene.
Mrs Caroline Tompkins Piper 70 of West Concord and formerly Acton died at a Grantsville rest home after months of illness. She was wife of William Piper who died January 10. She leaves a daughter Mrs Francis Manion Acton a son George R Piper Concord nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held at MacRae Home Rev Edwin B Len officiating. Interment was in Westlawn Cemetery Littleton.
Police officer Salvatore Silvio investigated a crash at Main and West streets. Douglas Caldwell of Laws Road and Mr. Goodin of Main Brook Road emerged unhurt but both cars were seriously damaged. Concord residents report injuries were not confirmed.
Henry Cabot Lodge, former Massachusetts senator, will receive the Out standing Citizen of Massachusetts award from Gov. David L Walsh Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus at a dinner in Newton on Monday November 11. The local assembly includes Concord and Lexington councils.
Concord Lions Club will hold its regular meeting Tuesday at 10 o'clock at Howards. President John Colli will preside and announcements will follow. Advisory council meets in North Woburn on November 14 and the district dance is set for Dover on November 22.
