Dr Meikle of Arlington Heights visited Bedford last week while the Bedford Hardware and Plumbing Co secured contracts for the Springs rd extension and local residence plumbing. Claude B Bartlett bought a Stoddard Dayton touring car and with a brother Elk traveled to Marlboro on Tuesday afternoon May 28 for the Marlboro lodge of Elks initiation.
Fire engineers plan a June 1 meeting to organize. Numerous residents and visitors are noted visiting relatives in Cambridge Brookline Rutland N H Conn R I Providence Taunton and Boston. The marriage of Kathryn Swayne and Nicholas Murphy is announced with many townsfolk expected to attend. Maynard High School Alumni object to a requested game with the high school team.
Marlboro Business shows improvement at the S. H. Howe Diamond F factory and a Marlboro Driving club reorganization with track races. The Y. P. S. C. defeated Rover A. C. 6 to 2 at Prospect park. Marlboro high school nine beat Lyman school 10 to 8 in a practice game at Westboro. Rep C F McCarthy presided in the Massachusetts House.
Weekend visitors share gatherings at local homes including Somerville and Leominster. Mrs Charles F Johnson elected Deputy Grand Matron of Massachusetts. A new playground dedication occurred, and a wedding invitation is issued for Miss Helen Diman Harwood and Irving Widmer Bailey on June 15 at the bride's home.
G W Carroll formerly with Gilman Bros Boston wholesale druggists has joined Do Blake Co druggists. Carroll brings years of experience and will provide prompt service to patrons of the well known house. The notice also mentions Jack Leahy Jr born last Monday and hints at his future as a member of the B P C E while noting his father’s notable stature and a growth in his height.
Rev. Wm. Batt of Concord preached at the Congregational church in Bedford to observe the 50th anniversary of his pastorate begun during the Civil War era. Judge Loomis welcomed the congregation and presented a bowl of roses. Batt, longtime chaplain emeritus at the Concord Reformatory, reflected on six decades of service.
Local residents visit relatives in Penacook and Hartford. John Maguire lands a Lynn GE job. Marion Shaw visits Irving Shaw. Marguerite Willis visits aunt Mrs Wright. Wallis Ford tours Pembroke. B F Russell returns from Hartford. E W Ford sells seven cars this season. Walcott buys Reo, plans a cement garage on Damon Street. Strawberry sociable at Minton church followed by West Concord Woman's club farce How the Club Was Formed.
The Mary Munroe place auction sale happens next Wednesday. J W Raymond and family spend the holiday in N H with relatives. Ruth Raymond returned from Tilton Academy. W C T U reception to Mr Fletcher Carr next Tuesday afternoon. Andrew Maker moves into Wilson cottage on Willow. Dr and Mrs R E B Knowlton Gloucester visited Colonial Inn. F E Power moves to Hubbard Street into Totman house. Prof J B Norton from Washington D C returns to town and uses Colonial Inn as headquarters. Town hall entertainment netted about 100 for Ing Hospital. Frank E Harris to move from Bedford Street to the former Power residence. Karl Jones, telegraph operator at Fitchburg station, moved from Acton to Willow Street.
A large class of children received their first communion at St Bernard’s church on Sunday morning after thorough instruction. The pastor Rev M J Slaherty arranged a reception in the hall with rolls coffee ice and cake for the young communicants and families.
