Principal Willis B Gifford and Chairman Harold Tompkins state the high school will end the day at 1 30 pm to allow more study time.
Corporal Ralph P. Hosmer Camp No 55 U S Spanish War veterans invited by the British Naval and Military Association of Massachusetts to join exercises on Sunday. Vicinity Council No 2 U S W V to hold regular meeting in Concord at 1.30. At 3 they join the British parade to the bridge. Lunch for Veterans at the Veterans Building sponsored by the Camp.
The Trinity Episcopal Church on Elm Street lists Holy Communion at 8 am and 11 am on Sunday with a sermon at the 11 am service led by Rector Rev. Charles R. Peck.
The First Parish Church on Lexington Road under Rev. Edward P. Daniels schedules a Children’s Sunday service at 11 a.m. with church school awards and christening of children. The church school picnic is set for Lake Boone on Thursday June 6. The King’s Daughters meet at 2:30 p.m. to do Red Cross work with Mrs. Philip A. Davis and Mrs. Edward P. Daniels as hostesses.
Rev Wilfrid H Bunker leads Sunday services at 9 30 am and 10 45 am with a sermon by the pastor The Church school directed by Supt Eliot R Howard and a 7 pm Young People meeting are listed Also the Church Committee meets Tuesday June 4 at 7 46 pm in the vestry
At Emerson Hospital births are announced for several families. Anker Hanning Clausen of Bedford street welcomed a baby boy on May 14. Evelyn Mon sen Clausen is the mother. Norman W Dakin and Myrtle Li Liese welcomed a daughter on May 16. the Dakins reside on Central Street. Kenneth Teed and Olive Mitchell Teed welcomed a son on May 18. Joseph Muscato and Mary Cotoni welcomed a daughter on May 17. the Muscatos live at 30 Belknap Street.
Obed Fellows lodge held initiatory work with the past officers present. A meeting this week is postponed for the holiday. On Sunday they will unite with Rebekahs for a union service at Union Church during the morning service.
Commander B. Alcott Pratt led a Concord veterans delegation to a Memorial service in Boston on Monday evening. The Concord Chapter plans to attend the event in Boston next.
Mrs Bridget Callahan Woodlock aged 64 of 2 Hismore Street Concord died last Thursday at Palmer Memorial Hospital Brookline after a long illness. Born in Ireland she lived in Concord for years. Survived by husband Robert P Woodlock a son John and daughter Mary A Woodlock all of Concord. Funeral from her home with a requiem high mass at St Bernard's Church Saturday morning. Interment at St Bartlard's Cemetery.
Concord Garden Club welcomed over two hundred visitors from nearby states to its annual Garden Day. Despite threatening weather, eight gardens attracted praise led by October Farm on Monument Street built in 1744. Other featured sites included Great Meadow Road, Simon Willard Road, Liberty Street, Strawberry Hill Road, and Robb’s on Monument Street with numerous committee volunteers aiding.
Concord George A Hodgdon manager of Jenny sas station installed new auto rock greasing equipment claiming it is the latest and most superior method for cars. The station is open for inspection with a full line of car servicing facilities and the Hodgdon couple return from a Maine motor trip. Arthur B Corey state semi pro baseball commissioner will hold this summer's state series at Marlboro. Morton R Seavey Peter Bulkeley school principal chosen by Rotarians to select June speakers. Major Michael J Dee led Old Company I reunion at Nashoba Inn. Company H M N G plans representatives to Carlisle for Memorial Day observance.
The Emerson Group will meet Sunday at Henry H Fay's Bul let Hole House on Monument Street at 8 p m. Members should prepare five points on the opening paragraph of Essay On the First Series on The Over Soul. Weather limited turnout at Sunday golf event at the Country Club. Fr H Gleason won the post selected 12 holes 47-43. Other scores listed.
Miss Lavinia Willis daughter of oe H Willis and the late Mrs Willis wed Robert MacLeod Jr at Congregational Church Friday evening. The ceremony was conducted by H Bunker assisted by Kenneth Teel. Attendants were Mr and Mrs W Weatherby of Cambridge Turnpike. The bride, Concord High School 1435 and Secretarial School Boston graduate, plans to live at 3 Hubbard Street after a short wedding trip.
The engagement is announced of Miss Rogene Currier of Concord to Rudolph W. Currier son of Mr and Mrs Robert T Howard of Everett Burdett College alumna and Concord news office employee. No wedding date has been set.
At the May Festival of the Concord Academy held on the school grounds Monday afternoon Miss Josephine Kidder daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry F P Kidder of 8 Hosmer Road was crowned Queen of the May. She was selected by a popular vote of the students and is a member of the Senior class.
The intramural high school basketball semi final saw John Antognoni’s Yankees defeat Poward Finigan’s Buckeyes 22 to 17 at Hunt Memorial Gym. The Yankees advance to face the Champs, coached by Dave Carey, for the title on a date to be set by Albert C. Cook. Dee and Henry scored six each for the Yankees while Short led the Buckeyes with seven.
Sleepy Hollow defeated Concord 9 to 0 in a pitcher duel with Emerson Platt on the mound for Sleepy Hollow. Hosmer earned the win, his first in seven starts, while Nick Macone pitched for Concord. Standings shown for Monday night.
Concord Massachusetts Miss Helen Morse daughter of Mr and Mrs Wendell Morse Jr of Lowell Road became the bride of Edward L Cutter Jr son of Mr and Mrs Edward Learoyd Cutter of Milton and Walpole New Hampshire The ceremony at First Church Cambridge was conducted by Rev Raymond Kalkus The bridal party included Miss Ruth D Morse maid of honor and Mrs William C Schroeder of Milwaukee among bridesmaids The couple will reside in Milton after a Bermuda wedding trip Cutter a Harvard graduate will join Hasty Pudding Institute Varsity Spee and Hoosick Whisking clubs Morse attended Sewickley Academy Marot Junior College Amy School of Design and Interior Decoration.
The 24th anniversary celebration of the Ladies Auxiliary A. O. H. No. 44 drew over 150 guests to Monument Hall on Monday night for a turkey dinner. Decorations by Katherine Gleason and Mary Hutchinson with Fred Flannery complemented remarks by Rev. Fr. Walter A. Quinlan, newly appointed pastor of St. Bernard's, escorted in by clergy including Rev. George Mulcahy. Elizabeth Tierney, county president, and several officers at the head table were acknowledged. juvenile musicians Thomas McKenna Tombeno and John Gallagher provided music.
Concord's Peanut Macone's Soft Halfnine suffered a 14 to 9 defeat to the Post Office team in 12 innings at Rideout Playground Monday evening marking their second straight loss in the inter town league.
The school committee through Secretary Arthur V Howland issued a call for bids for the year's coal supply. All bids must be submitted to the board via the secretary. The committee also invites bids for transportation of pupils on the route operated by William R Davison.
Mrs William Faversham of Garfield Road achieved the second recorded hole in one by a woman at the Concord Country Club last Sunday. Playing with her husband and Jerald Henderson the 167 yard six hole ace followed a hot driver shot and adds to her prowess in golf and badminton.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Church Boston for Miss Mary Eilen Selmes former Rome correspondent for the New York Times She died in New York City after visiting her niece Mrs Henry King Survivors include two nephews Claiborn Garrett and Jackson Garrett and other Concord residents Burial took place at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Concord New Hampshire
About two hundred voters attended the special meeting. The session lasted six minutes and adjourned without favorable action on three articles. Article 3, to hear reports of committees, had definite action. a committee on land donated by James Edward Kinsley was accepted, with land bounds for town use in perpetuity. Articles 1 and 2 to amend town representation were tabled indefinitely, and a motion to reconsider the 1914 vote appointing a street superintendent was defeated as the meeting adjourned at 8:46.
Troop 49 Explorer Patrol led by Andrew Raymond toured several power facilities in New England. Six boys including Robert Voigt and William Anderson visited the Hydro Plant 5 in Florida Massachusetts, Sherman Automate Plant, Harriman Plant in Reedsboro Vermont, and the Shelburne Falls Plant under an MIT graduate guide.
The Concord Veterans' Council will host a Memorial Day parade with formation at the State Armory at 2 pm. The lineup includes Ralph P Holme Corps No 66 and other units marching via Everest to Stow Sudbury and past Old Main Street Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, and Monument Square. Graves will be decorated and wreaths laid. veteran groups, guards, and the Legion Band participate before a community supper at the Veterans Building.
West Concord plans a Saturday June 1 Community Field Day to benefit West Concord Troop 33. Dr Edmund Dow is treasurer. Proceeds will send deserving Scouts to Camp Sachem for a two week camping and training period considered highly valuable by local Scout leaders.
