Memorial Day events outline parade lineup with the American Legion band and several veteran groups marching along Everett and Stow streets. Units include Company H, 162nd Infantry National Guard, World War Veterans, Civil War and Spanish War veterans, and Boy/Girl Scout groups. Mrs William E Hoelscher 63 of Maple Avenue South Sutbury died May 2 at a Waltham physician’s office during a visit to a son living in Chicago. The obituary notes she had traveled to see family.
Frank J DeMars Post of the American Legion will lead Memorial Day events in Maynard. The procession will march from Parker Street to Glenwood Cemetery where World War I and Spanish American War graves will be decorated. The GAR lot will host an oration by Rev Mathew A Vance with prayers by Rev A Koski.
The Flower Show of the Concord Garden Club at the Girl Scout Community House featured a rich display of tulips narcissus irises and flowering shrubs. Prize winners in classes included Mrs Robert Bowen Mrs George Metcalf Mrs Bordman Mrs Thomas Sanborn Mrs Robert Bygrave Mrs Louis Sohier and Miss May Chamberlain among others.
Citizens honor fallen service members with banners and flowers while prayers and tears mark a somber tribute. Local volunteers place flags and wreaths, recalling bravery and sacrifice during difficult times for the town and its veterans.
Commissioner Callahan of the Public Works Board rebuffs Marlboro demands for a bypass on the Boston Post Road through Sudbury and Wayland. He notes no federal allocations are set and warns the route change would cost about 300000 dollars more than the current plan.
Maynard Joseph Duncan of Lincoln Street reports a robin nest in his yard. Yesterday a baby robin fell to the lawn and the cat in the yard was shooed away to keep the chick safe.
Maynard Assembly Rainbow for Girls held a Saturday night ceremony at Masonic hall to install officers led by Anna Fayton and Janet Miller. The event included curatorial remarks, a collation, and the installation of Mother Advisor Mrs. Ben Peterson.
The South Bedford Unit of the Middlesex County Extension Service elected officers. Ruthie was chosen president, Ellen Neville vice president, Muriel Exeenhower secretary, and Clarence Webster treasurer. A special meeting at Mrs Ken Neville's Woods street home discussed plans to attend the Makers' picnic in Lexington on June 7.
Commissioner Callahan heard a delegation from Marlboro Northboro and Sudbury urging that the Post Road be finished before starting new projects. They cited over 2 million dollars in regional investments and traffic losses east of Marlboro. He acknowledged Route 20 conditions and promised consideration of the request.
Miss Dorothy Tierney of Greet Road remains convalescing at Clinton hospital after an operation performed during the week. Miss Rita Rady of Watertown formerly Maynard won first prize in a Scott Purke model contest held during the week.
