Maynard Community News Highlights And Local Events

Maynard residents gather for church services and parish events as Pastor Matthew Vance returns to preach at Union Congregational. Local students Ruth Moynihan and Sylvia Anola graduate from Fitchburg and Bridgewater Normal schools. Memorial Week sports schedule and town notices include baseball games, traffic safety efforts, and community club events at Crowe Park and Maynard Country Club.

Maynard High Junior Prom Shines At Auditorium Dance

The Maynard High School junior prom, held Friday at the auditorium, drew a crowd of relatives and friends. Sophomore gypsy-themed decorations lit the hall as about eighty juniors danced in colorful costumes. Philip Wilson led the festivities with Leona Dudzinski and Alric French as officers. Mrs Walker and others supervised decorations and the program while refreshments followed.

Maynard Juniors dominate Wheeler outfit in league win

Maynard Junior High defeated Harvey Wheeler of West Concord 19 to 0 at Crowe Park in a Minute Man League game. Jimmie Creighton pitched a no hit no run effort, while Maynard players Malaherty Brayden O Leary and Pierwicz powered the hit parade.

Memorial Night program at Maynard Grange meeting

William H Millington spoke at a Maynard Grange Memorial Night in Grange Hall. A Junior High School patriotic program directed by Florence Wilder featured sketches, songs such as Tenting Tonight and America Answers, recitations, and a Memorial Day Fantasy. Attendees included local pupils and performers with an intermission by an orchestra from West Concord.

Maynard Rainbow for Girls Install Officers at Masonic Hall

Maynard Assembly Rainbow for Girls held a Saturday night meeting at the Masonic hall to install officers. Miss Virginia Lawson directed the ceremony with assistants Miss Louise Johnston Doris Dawson and Elizabeth Binks. New officers include Edith Elson Ruth Berglind Gertrude Weaving Mary Allen Hazel Manley Elaine Holland Myrna Goettler Luella Huntoon Myrtle Phillips Barbara Stockbridge Elaine Koch Leong Howard Caroline Tuttle Dorothy Burnham Caroline Crosby Emma Miller Caroline Kingman Ethel Elson Ruth Bishop Ruth Taylor Marion Lester Ruth Cathwright Pisie Suikko Bernice Downey. Doris Dawson received a jewel as retiring worthy advisor. Mrs Rose Allen presented a flag for the Assembly and remarks were offered by Mrs Leslie McGarry. A collation followed.

Hudson Altar Boys Beat Maynard Juniors

St Michael's church Altar Boys of Hudson defeated Maynard Junior High School 13 to 6 at Crown Park Saturday. Jimmie Creighton limited Maynard to two hits in six innings as St Michael's surged early with a big lead. Travers had three hits for St Michael's while Kehoe pitched and Travers doubled. Maynard six mile race yields Hennigan record at Kaleva

In heavy rain at Kaleva Recreation Grounds Maynard hosts the annual six mile race. Jimmie Hennigan wins in 32m 45s 36, setting a course mark amid strong showings by Kelley Walker and others. The event draws crowds, patrol escorts, and local clubs from Dorchester to South Boston.

Memorial Service Held for Knights of Pythias and Progressives

Maynard May 28 memorial services were held for members of Progressive Lodge Knights of Pythias and Progressive Pythian Sisters. Services at St George's Episcopal Church led by Rev Eason Cross followed by lunch at Masonite hall. Delegations later decorated graves across Glenwood Sleepy Hollow Concord Brookside Stow Hudson and Mount Hope cemeteries.

The annual May party of Phil athen class was held last night at the vestry of the Congregational church. A social entertainment program was planned. The Ladies Benevolent Society will present a special program at the regular meeting next Thursday afternoon at the church vestry.

Mrs Alma Maki Dies In Emerson Hospital

Mrs Alma Maki 49 of 27 Glendale street died at Emerson hospital Thursday afternoon. Survived by a son and daughter. Born in Finland she came to this country 25 years ago and lived five years in Maynard where she worked in the Assabet mill. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon with burial in the family lot in a Brookline New Hampshire cemetery.

Doctor Fuchs Breaks Arm In Beverly Crash

Dr. Douglas M. Fuchs injured when his car collided with a vehicle driven by William Lundgren of 74 Dodge Street Beverly on Soldiers Field Road Boston. Fuchs treated for a broken arm at Elizabeth’s hospital and released. Lundgren suffers a fractured skull and is on the danger list. Both cars badly damaged.
