Concords Fourth Company plans Memorial Day activities under the Concord Veterans Council. First Sgt. J Buchan ah Nims and Sgt. French lead the escort for the Veterans. May 30 exercises include a firing squad and guest lecturers. Corporal Charles L Noble has reenlisted.

West Concord resident and son of former town official, Joseph F King Jr, was among 1500 prisoners of war who returned home last weekend. He spent over a year interned in a camp near Vinco and was later liberated when the camp was overrun by advancing Allied forces. King had served about two years and was previously listed as missing in action. He was a member of the Concord State Guard before joining the U.S. Army and served in an infantry unit that was captured.
Peter Peterson former foreman of the Cargill home on Walden Street died at his Holliston residence after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at Pueret cemetery. He was widely known in the town, in his 64th year, and survived by his wife three daughters six grandchildren and several brothers living locally.
Mr and Mrs John E Ruble of 9 Shirley Street marked their 45th anniversary with a family gathering at home last Sunday They are well known in West Concord active in local organizations and were married in Lowell West Virginia about 30 years ago The couple has three daughters one son and several grandchildren
A 100 ton tanker was torpedoed April 6 off Cape Cod. Second Engineer Lane of West Concord survived along with 57 crewmen who escaped injury as the vessel was shattered. Navy boards of inquiry in Boston investigate three ship sinkings in New England waters costing 61 lives since the war began.
The Concord town meeting approved a tax rate of 33.60 with a rise cited from higher assessed property values. The 1945 assessment shows 2,415 taxpayers vs 2,515 a year earlier, and names James H. Dee of Bedford Street and N. MacRae of Kelknaper as attendees at a funeral directors' meeting at the paston hotel.
