The Middlesex Prize Scholar program announces 1939 winners Broderick B. Boyden Cb cago James K. Brown Roland F. Howe Jr Charles J. Ryan Jr Minturn T. Wight from Chicago Des Moines San Francisco Philadelphia White Plains. Concord hosts its sixth annual garden tour Friday afternoon May 26 from 4 to 7 pm featuring Hawthorne’s Old Mantle herb garden and the Antiquarian Society garden. Tours include Mary Ogden’s bury road garden near Daniel Chester Frary’s old home, with Mrs George P Metcalf Garfield road garden and Fletcher Steele designed river garden. The Rev. P M Peterson preaches at 3 30 on Sunday afternoons this month at the Methodist Church on Thoreau street. He began ministry here and has served as editor teacher and pastor in major churches. Sgt Norman Scherer of Concord joins several local men taking advantage of the Massachusetts National Guard program to earn commissions in the U S Army by completing a three year course at the Massachusetts Military Academy. Concord High School track team travelled to Wellesley and scored a total of 61 points. Hawkes earned Concord's lone first place in the shot put while multiple runners placed in sprints distances and distance events, with Wellesley taking several top spots and the meet highlighting competitive performances.
Mrs Harold Cowling of Commonwealth Avenue West Concord was chosen president at the annual meeting.
