Concord Garden Club plans Arbor Day dogwood plantings

The Concord Garden Club will plant dogwood trees in prominent town centers and two weeping willows at the railroad station to replace lost trees. The project aims to make the hardy tree a distinctive feature of Concord’s landscape with cooperation from nearby landowners. The conservation committee directs the work, chaired by Mrs. William M. Cole and including Mrs. Henry Brooks Mrs. Henry B. Bigelow Mrs. Herbert B. Hosmer and Mrs. Richard B. Hobart.

Concord remembers Hapgood Wright during the Tercentenary. William H. Wright dies at home in Marlboro after winter illness. Survived by daughter Mrs. Jaworek Jeanette K. Wright, sons Edward F. Wright and Joseph K. Wright, seven grandchildren, and four Kennedy brothers. Burial in Sleepy Hollow cemetery after requiem mass at Our Lady Help of Christians West Concord.

Milton Paine Reappointed Supervisor of Concord Playgrounds

The Concord Sumime Playground Committee unanimously reappoints Milton Paine as Supervisor of the Concord and West Concord Playgrounds for eight weeks from June 28 to August 23. Applicants for the playgroup leader post at 15.00 per week must send a letter detailing qualifications to Miss Anne Root by May 12 to the Playground Recreational Instruction Committee in Concord Massachusetts.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Annie T Nee West Concord

Funeral services were held yesterday morning for Mrs Annie T Nee at her home on Lawsrock Road West Concord. A high mass was celebrated at Our Lady Hall Christians Church, with burial at St Bridget's Cemetery Maynard. Mrs Nee's husband John M Nee, longtime officer at the Massachusetts Reformatory, survives with two sons and two daughters.

James H Finigan of Concord died after stopping his bus to save sixteen children as a freight train approached. A public school memorial service was held with a full mass at St Bernard's Church and a school-wide minute of silence observed on May 1 1939.

Hearing Today On Bus Driver Death In Concord

A hearing before Judge Howard A Wilson in Concord District Court is set to decide whether an inquest into the death of bus driver James H Finigan will be held. The 3 46 PM collision with a freight train at Commonwealth Avenue left Finigan severely injured. witnesses disagree on gate status as the bus waited near Hogan's Spa and the train passed. The inquest, if held, would determine possible criminal charges arising from the incident.
