A High Mass of Requiem was held at St Bernard’s Church for Edward Rushe a longtime Concord resident who died last Thursday in Jamaica Plain after a long illness. Born in Ireland he was in his sixties and a member of Concord and Jamaica Plain Councils, Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife Mary son Edward Jr of New York daughter Mrs Clarence Trejeaven of London sister Mrs James Fitzpatrick of Lackawanna brother Bernard of Concord and two sisters in Ireland. Interment followed at St Bernard’s Cemetery.

Last Wednesday morning the Concord Garden Club launched a drive to raise funds for renovating the B and M Depot on the Fitchburg line off Thoreau Street. Members planned proportional donations and three women sold carnations for May Day, moving 16 bouquets in under two hours at ten cents each. The club aims to paint the depot, remove a tower, and plant shrubbery to improve the depot grounds and curb the sore spot for travelers and residents.
