Thomas Wyan 86 died at his Main Street home after a two week illness. A native of St John New Brunswick he served 43 years at the Massachusetts Reformatory retiring in 1935. A mass at Our Lady Help of Christians west Concord honored him with burial in St Bernard cemetery. He was a Charter member of Concord Council K of C and Holy Name Society. He leaves a son Thomas W Ryan and two others at home.
Concord-The Concord High School class of 1923 plans a silver anniversary reunion on Saturday May 29 at 7 PM. John J McWalter is chairman with help from Miss Margaret Hutchinson Mrs Mary Williams Charles E Comeau and Russell I Eldridge.
Mrs Henry A Laughlin of Monument Street in Concord leads the local committee aiding the Crusade for Children and United Nations Appeal for Children. The world drive runs May 10 to June 7 with a national goal of 60 million dollars, including 2.5 million from Massachusetts.
A large Concord Board of Trade gathering met last Monday at the Colonial Room, How ard Johnson Restaurant with President William F. Kussin presiding. Guest speaker James Gahan spoke on Lets Watch Beacon Hill. notes from officers and committees were presented and the season closed for summer.
The West Concord and Willow Rebekah Lodges announce a joint anniversary banquet and program on Thursday May 13 at 6 30 PM at Odd Fellows Hall West Concord. An entertainment program will close the evening.
Mrs Ruth Alton won first prize and two free tickets for the opening night with the winning answer to Who Is It. Second prize went to Mrs Edward H Fennessey of Bedford. Other winners include Mrs Richard F Wood Sr and Mrs Clement S See and Mrs Stanwood K Bolton of Concord.
Bedford announces a four day celebration from May 9 to May 12 featuring Red Cross Gray Ladies and canteen workers on duty. Public exhibition of patient work runs daily 12 30 to 3 30 p m in the main auditorium with tours of shops and clinics and special movies on May 11 and 12. May 9 program at 2 p m includes remarks by Edith Nourse Rogers John W McCormack Gov Robert F Bradford and Carl R Gray VA Administrator.
The Corinthian Lodge A F and A M will hold its regular meeting at the Masonic Temple on Monday night, May 10, at 7 30 o clock. Worshipful Master William A Robus will preside.
Concord Massachusetts Highway Department worker Concord-Gabriele Ciervo, 61, was critically injured last Monday afternoon while operating a sweeping machine on the Concord Turnpike. He was dragged about 15 feet as the machine started, then rushed to Emerson Hospital for scalp injuries and possible internal injuries and a possible fractured leg. Patrolmen Fred Nolan and Domin Pagano assisted.
Concord reports hospitals across the country have charged $25 or more for each pint of blood given to a patient. The fee could be avoided if the patient could rally donors to replace the blood used. Tragically, some patients died simply because blood was not available when needed.
Box 34 sparked for a minor alarm at the rear of the John Bartolomeo property on West Concord Avenue. Concord firefighters responded with the local apparatus. Earlier last Monday afternoon five grass fires drew multiple fire departments.
Concord town forms the School Facilities Committee headed by Raymond Emerson with Charles W Allen as secretary. Members include George K Whitney H Theodore Beharrell George S Lawton Arthur A Magurn and Lawrence Terry. The panel will survey the school situation and report by August 15. A special town meeting will follow the report.
Concord and West Concord residents prepare vacations with plans to visit Washington DC New York and Oslo Norway. Dagmar and Olja Nilsen of Liberty Street depart for Oslo to stay until September while Erling Knutzen and Odd Overgaard arrange trips to Norway leaving May 13. All arrangements handled by Valentine's Travel Agency at 29 Walden Street.
The Concord Board of Selectmen renewed most officers and added four new specials: John H Byron Edward K True Maxwell E Lawrence and Bernard J Culkins Sr. Several resignations followed including Alfred J Baptiste William J Lee Daniel C Sullivan and Arthur W Thoresen among others with Edward A Boreson remaining as permanent patrolman.
