May 10 Backlog club sunset party at town hall with children’s dancing 4 5 pm and adults 8 11 pm, supper at 6 30, Thayer’s orchestra. M W Leahy begins road work Winchendon to Baldwinsville with seven double teams. Edwin Loring and Giles Barber supply teams. Road bed construction overseen by same supervisor as the Ayer Lowell project two years ago. U S agricultural dept crew clears brush along New Estate rd 30 chains each side, piles debris, wood stacked on owners’ land. A few trees spared and creosoted to fight gypsy moths.
