Science fair winners at Beta Plan annual Patriots Day

Sophia Devereux won first prize for Blood Grouping and $15 at the Beta Plan Patriots Day science display. Second prize went to Mary Cahane and Jean Lamour for Science of Musical Sounds. Third prize awarded to Elizabeth Ogilvie and Emily Rideout for Cortisons in the Age of Hormones. Nearly 50 exhibits were shown with many honors.

Lawton Appointed To Replace Allen On Town Board

Concord announces Lawton of 12 Highland street appointed to the personnel board replacing Charles W. Allen elected to the board of selectmen. Lawton will serve until January 1, 1956. He is a former chairman of the Municipal Light Plant.

Local Youth Elected to DeMolay Post in Massachusetts

Concord youth George Hodgman, 20 Monument Street, former Concord DeMolay master councillor and Concord High School graduate, was elected senior councillor of the Massachusetts Westerly Jurisdictional Council of DeMolay. The selection occurred at the first annual conference at Shelton Hall Boston University hosted by B A. The post is second highest in a council of 24 chapters with over 2,000 members. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy B. Hodgman.

Concord High School hosts its first annual arts classes exhibit this Friday March 25 from 8 to 10 p m in the cafeteria. A highlight will be a student fashion show by the clothing class. The public is invited.

Concord veteran merchant Thomas Peterson aged 79 from 29 Stow Street marks his birthday on Saturday March 26. Peterson is the dean of local Mill Dam merchants and has worked in the clothing business since 1899.

Promotion Elevates Dee to Commander of Company H

Pan V Dee has been promoted to captain and named commander of Company H as of March 5. He has served with Company H since 1949, including three years as a pilot in World War II and four years with the Army Reserve before enlistment. Dee succeeds his brother Capt. Maurine L. Dee, led the unit previously, and was acting commander for a year. He earned his commission at Fort Benning and is married to Helen Mattison with three children. He works at the Massachusetts Reformatory in West Concord.

Patterson Named Fire Chief in Concord after Tut tle retirement

Concord selectsman announce Harry A. Patterson 4 Potter street promoted to Fire Chief effective March 18 following retirement of Harry E. Tuttle after 19 years as head of the department. Patterson joined as call man 1922 29 permanent member 1929 captain 1940 deputy chief last June. He has served about 37 years in town. Laurence Hennessy Cambridge Turnpike named new captain at Central Station taking effect April 1 bringing three captains and a chief. deputy chief post to be discontinued.

Eaton Bill Lets Town Hire Doctor Aid for Workers

Rep Eaton introduced a Concord bill authorizing the town to buy insurance to protect employees in illness cases. The measure, unopposed at a public hearing, would benefit permanent town workers needing a doctor. The sponsor cited Concord selectmen’s strong support.

Miss Eva E. Carkin Dies at 92 in Concord Hospital

Concord resident Miss Eva E. Carkin aged 92 of 13 Monument street died at Emerson Hospital Tuesday morning after a long illness. Born in Tyngsborough September 26, 1862 she was sister to M rs Nearney Carkin who died last year and survived by another sister Miss Myra Carkin at home. Funeral from her late home Friday at 2 o clock with Rev. P Daniels of the First Parish Unitarian Church officiating.

Senior Youth Fellowship to hear talk on Mormon religion

Concord Names Four New Firemen in Board Announcement

The Concord board of selectmen announced the appointment of four new firemen pending medical exams. Daniel E. Teabo, Richard L. Pickel, George A. Moreau, and Norman A. Christian were named on recommendation of Chief Henry A. Patterson. all are veterans of World War II and residents of local streets.
