Weekend visits, naval transfers, and homecomings appear in local notices. Residents including Matthew Campbell Maynard, Dana Jones, Patrick Kane, and Oliver Trees are listed among naval reservists and sailors returning home or being reassigned. Mil l workers report illnesses and recoveries while community churches mark anniversaries and events.
Concord Junction residents host relatives and guests from Allston Holliston Marblehead Worcester New Bedford and Charlestown. Several towns send visitors while others relocate including Mr and Mrs Duren moving to Springfield and the Bowker family hosting visitors from Norwood along with hospital updates and a newborn in Deaconess Hospital.
Word reached town Wednesday of the death of Mrs Walter Harris at her Jerbury home formerly Miss Catherine Mahar. She had long been known here for years of service to Mrs Benjamin Debby. Survived by her husband and an infant daughter.
Concord residents attended meetings and events around town this week. Notable notes include Winifred Carrigan visiting Syracuse and a Boston flower show visit. Alfred Olsen buying Huntley farm. I O O F to hold second degree. Gertrude Towle leading a Christian Endeavor meeting. Marion Moody visiting Radcliffe College. a large crowd at the Finigan and Magurn auction. Louise Smith planning a Pittsfield relocation. Mr and Mrs George Urquhart visiting relatives as he serves in the Gas Defense medical unit. Concord Union Bible society to meet March 28 to finish work for French babies. Union hall in Carlisle hosted another successful dancing party with the Colonial Orchestra of Maynard providing music.
Miss Heloise E Hearsey delivered a lecture on An Interpretation of Today at Trinity church parish house Friday afternoon. The event, sponsored by the Junior Red Cross of Thenford, drew a well attended audience with patronesses named.
Eight Middlesex School ice hockey players were awarded letters. Recipients include captain elect William Jenks, captain Joe Romaine, former captain Duncan F P Thayer, Theodore Romaine, Thomas Carnegie, John Bencroft, Charles Brown, and Winsor Gale.
Ason Kielinen born to Mr and Mrs Ansela Kielinen on McKinley Street Thursday. Private John Wirtanen of Camp Devens visiting relatives here. Edward Mason of Great Island absent from duties due to illness. Robert Jackson of Houston weekend guest of his parents. George Merrick, cashier at Assabet mills, bought a Hudson Super Six this week. Clifton W Stetson transferred to Danielson Connecticut as Woolworth store manager. Walter Comeau of Littleton visiting his parents on Linden Street. Mrs Charles Williams of Concord Street improving after neuritis and rheumatism. Grace Maley, Fitchburg public school teacher and Fitchburg Normal School student, spent weekend with her parents Thompson Street.
As warm weather approaches work on the new building at the As sabet mills speeds up. The structure will measure 510 by 80 feet and crews led by Emile Boeske Whitney Hastings and E Barilone haul sand cement and lumber for quick construction when weather allows.
Miss Mabel V. Parker of Boston and William McCharles of Lowell were at home over Sunday. Mrs. May Wilbur of Manchester N H visited Miss Mildred Moore. James A. Grimes loaded wood for Apsley Rubber Co Hudson. Miss Emma J. Hart of Medford spent Sunday with her sister Mrs J S Hoar. Mrs Edgar Harrod and son visited at her mother Mrs Francis Whitcomb. Geo H Reed received a car of nut coal sold to many families. Rev G M Missirian spoke to 500 boys at Concord Reformatory. Friends sent D H Hall a shower of post cards in St Petersburg Fla for his 76th birthday.
