Ynard plans a new World War vets honor roll at Memorial Park replacing the church lawn display. The list will be revised from local Legion and community input with names corrected, added, and verified by Legion Commander Samson and Post members.
Federal agents raided a Maynard farm barn at 157 Summer street seizing three copper stills and large quantities of cane sugar and materials. Five men were arrested and arraigned in Boston federal court. Cohen Smith Wike Torppa were bailed. Value of seized property estimated at 15000 dollars.
Miss Evelyn King began duties as student operator in the Acton exchange office of the N E Telephone Company replacing Miss Barbara Swift who wed Mr Robert Goucher last Saturday at West Concord. Others note Mrs W B Holt’s Belmont visit and plans to move. Ikes include silver anniversary greetings, organist substitution at South Acton church, and a West Acton Woman's Club meeting with Mrs Albert B Carter as guest speaker.
The West Acton Woman's Club with a 26 member committee will host a rummage sale labeled among the most expensive goods in the community. A food and candy sale and tea garden will operate at the club house from two to five p m on Friday March 28 with refreshments available all afternoon.
Concord March 19 The Concord Lodge of Elks will install new officers on Tuesday April 8 at Monument Hall with Exalted Ruler William Graham Murray as chairman and Past Exalted Ruler Edward W Sheehan also on the committee. Brookline lodge members will attend as guests for the ceremonial. A dance on Easter Monday April 21 will benefit the baseball team with Dave Sheehan’s nine piece orchestra. Baseball committee includes Dr John J Fallon Harold Tompkins Lovell P George and Thomas DuBerger.
Concord March 19 the contract for completing the Trinitarian Congregational Church auditorium has been awarded to Sawyer Construction Company of Boston. They are also constructing the West Concord Branch Library. Electrical work will be done by Alexander R MacLeod. The heater type and organ selection will be decided at a later committee meeting.
Bedford Saturday afternoon saw four alarms within an hour as crews battled brush fires. Sunday rain brought welcome relief, cooling embers and easing duties for firefighters.
Bedford Woman's club hosted a Children's Day in the school auditorium. The first play The Power of Pure Gold featured Oscar Straw and Bessie Osborne as a lost boy and girl guided to reunion by a trumpet. The second Ring of the Bookcase portrayed a fairyland debate with Peter Pan as ruler. Maynard Lodge I.O.O.F. members attended a West Acton Lodge event, and Acton lodge candidates will receive a degree tonight.

Under Division 56 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians the Doctor's Office—a novelty farce by George L Fleming—was staged at Monument Hall on St Patrick's Day. The same cast as The Birth of Sapation returned to delight a large audience with midnight dancing afterward. The Sudbury Parent-Teachers Association and the Middlesex Extension Farm Bureau met at Grange Hall last Wednesday. Regina Feeney of Concord spoke on nutrition with diet food value illustrations, Mrs Carlton Elims sang, and Laurence Davell received a poster prize for placing third statewide. his work will advance to the national contest at the May Denver convention.
The Legion Auxiliary held a successful bridge and whist evening at Odd Fellows hall. Prizes ranged from lamps and bed slippers to sugar and ham for both bridge and whist winners. Arrangements were by Mrs Jones and others. another whist party is planned for Easter Monday with more prizes.
Mrs Bertram D Hall hosted a farewell bridge party for Misa Elizabeth with a gathering of friends including Marjory Stearns Catherine Kinsley Francis Hall Ethel Hall Minetta Lee Ruth Hall and Ethel Stark. Prize scores noted.
A capacity crowd attended union services at the Union Congregational church with Methodist Episcopal and Congregational participants led by Rev. Charles C. Garland and Rev. Hason Rogers. A Congregational choir, Gav in Taylor Jr and Hazel Hooper supplied music. A play Simon's Wife's Mother will be presented next Sunday by Rollstone church from Irishburg. Children from Congregational and St George's attended a Lenten service at St George's and will attend again at Congregational Friday. Two more children services are planned at Congregational and St George's before Leyten season ends.
Bedford town meeting at the Junior High School auditorium chaired by Claude A. Palmer adopts resolutions in memory of late moderator Charles Jenks. The 45-article warrant includes a $133,105 budget led by $46,500 for the schools and water mains heading to North Road. A three member board of health will study plumbing regs. The historic Bedford Flag sparks debate on vault location with $600 set aside for a town hall vault. The meeting adjourns at 11:15 PM.
Annursnac Grange members led by Mrs Linnie Li Hodgdon performed Strolling Musicians before the Metropolitan Past Masters Association in Reading on Wednesday. The cast featured Dorothy Miner, Velma Hinman, Barbara Robbins, Mary MacAuley, Josephine Pearce, Edith Bailey, Jessie Delaney, Guiseppi Santora and others in gypsy costumes with Italian songs and a playful organ grinder sketch.
Miss Catherine F Crocker of Bedford visited Robert College in Constantinople during a Mediterranean cruise, as recorded in local society notes.
Middlesex School staged Gilbert and Sullivan’s Princess Ida Friday and Saturday to full houses marking the fourteenth school opera and eleventh of G and S. Cast included W B Cudahy and D MacC Kellar Jr with elaborate costumes, scenery, and an expert orchestra under Lamb and Taylor.
West Concord March 19. Children’s Party at Harvey Wheeler School delighted young guests of the West Concord Woman's Club. Clowning magician and Punch and Judy entertained before kids moved to the basement for ice cream and cake. Committee for Children’s Day included Mrs. John Adams as chairman, with Mrs. Frank C. Leighton, Mrs. Robert Carter, and Mr. Joseph Griffin.
The Acton Woman's club entertained Precinct 1 children after a Wednesday meeting from 3 to 5. Harrell a magician amused the kids with musical glasses bells pictures and sleight of hand tricks. A club committee provided ice cream and cookies.
On March 11 the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities approved Boston Consolidated Gas Company to extend service into Concord Lincoln Sudbury and Wayland. Gas mains construction should start soon with service to reach Concord by mid summer. A temporary office will be at Wakden street Concord for inquiries and appliance displays.
Concord announces the marriage of Margaret Viola Whitney to Bare C. Lamson. The ceremony occurred at a New York City church on Washington's Birthday with Rev Randolph Ray officiating. Margaret, a Cord, High School and Wheelock kindergarten graduate, will teach in Eacewood, N.Y. Lamson is son of W J Lamson of Acton and St. Petersburg Florida, affiliated with the Waltham Trust Co.
John Lovell president of Lovell Bus Lines announced a new Lexington to Watertown square branch to open around April 1. The route will run via Arlington, Arlington Center, Belmont, Waverly, Five Forks and connect with the main line at Five Forks Arlington.
Virginia Houston 13 daughter of Mr and Mrs F DeHart Houston of Musketaquid road Concord died in Lausanne Switzerland from appendicitis. The Houston family, who left in September for a year abroad, spent the winter in Lausanne while touring Europe.
George Whitney aged 78 died at his Nashua New Hampshire home on Saturday March 8 after a brief pneumonia illness. Funeral services were held at Pine Grove Cemetery Lynn Massachusetts Mortuary chapel conducted by Rev Ralph A Barker. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth Whitney Jones of South Acton aged 97, the last of the family.
Sudbury Parent Teachers Association will have Mrs. Fred Morrison Mrs. E Norman Bowry Mrs. Edward Hunt Mrs. Cabot Devyell Mrs. W E Davi son and Mrs James L Bartlett assist Mrs Arthur Webber Field Secretary as they organize a new P T A branch in Nobscot Friday.
Mrs Hazel W Scott daughter of Mr or Mrs Frank W Hoit writes from Mexico City in March 1930 about work with the General Motorization of New York and life in Guadalajara Mexico City and Santa Fe observations. She notes food oil beans twigs orange blossoms and tropical weather comparing it to New England and sends best wishes to Acton friends.
Frank B Bent and Sylvester De Perry among charter members of the Sudbury Lodge of the Patrons of Husbandry who attended a meeting to help celebrate the lodge's 45th anniversary. Several veterans received congratulations and good wishes for continued presence at the half century milestone.
