Arrest of Rev. White on disturbing the peace in Worcester
Reverend Elliott White, who spoke in Marlboro on Sunday night, March 8, was arrested in Worcester Monday evening by Chief of Detectives Patrick O Day on the charge of disturbing the peace. He stood with about 50 men and boys outside 16 Mechanics Street as tensions rose over anarchist speaker Alexander Berkman. White insisted he had nothing to do with the Socialist gathering, but police forced the crowd away and detained him, choosing imprisonment over bail as crowds surged.
