Americana passes twice through submarine zone aboard Alaskan
Edward A. Hunnewell of Main Street sailed from Boston January 26 on the French Canadian Line 8 steamship Alaskan bound for St Nazaire and Genoa with a cargo of steel and contraband of war. The ship flew the American flag and faced heavy seas due to submarine peril both ways. Two Arlington boys were aboard and Bedford friends received postals from La Pallice, France. The vessel is to dock in New York late this week or early next.

Bedford men parade in inaugural Washington march
Four Bedford members of the Lexington Minute Mets accompanied the detachment in the inaugural parade on Monday March 5 Capt Fred F Cook Lieut G C Strahan 2d Lieut Martin F McMahon and Corp Oscar Hayes of Co C Bedford. The detachment wore Colonial uniforms and drew attention amid the patriotic wave. They met two former Bedford boys Manning Goddard and Stephen Whittaker at the event.

Injured Hand Incident on Ice-Coated Walk
Reverend L. Pierce slipped on ice Thursday while descending a cement walk. The bag handle ripped skin on the back of his right hand, exposing cords and causing bleeding. Dr. Shaw of Acton Centre treated and dressed the wound.
