A new state of the art gymnasium at Middlesex School has been completed at a cost of 125000 dollars. The facility combines a gymnasium swimming pool and baseball cage with red brick curtain walls and a slate and glass roof.
Mrs Henry Hawley Jr is recovering from an operation last week. The Help of Christians church hosted Lenten devotions with Fr Kiley of East Cambridge. Catholic club rehearsals under Mr Keegan of Somerville for an April 17 18 show. West Concord Women’s club meets March 16 under Miss Bess Snyder. The 2 Prisons director Gyrus Adams and Thomas O’8 preside. Fr A Cummings spoke on An Audience with the Pope at Holy Name Society. Union church Men’s club to host annual amateur night. Wells, superintendent of schools, to lecture on Some Phases of Education.
Local Burrill Tire Tool Co showcases a newly invented instrument by Frank H. Burrill. The tool, already drawing strong interest, is reported to improve old methods and gains attention from New England states and distant areas like Cuba and the Far West. Residents of the town back its growth and await its expansion.
Mrs. Thaxter recovers from injuries. Mrs. James Cudahy of Allston visited Bedford friends. Lenten services planned at St Michael's church Friday evening. Mr and Mrs George Pierce return to South Bedford. George M Dimond confined at home after injuries. Bedford friends saw Houdini stunts at B F Keith's theatre. Carlisle Democrats held an inaugural ball at Union hall with town attendees.
The Bedford Free Public Library reports trust funds of 9027.93 dollars and 12 660 volumes with 12 422 circulations last year. Overcrowded rooms prompt a plan to relocate to the Lucy P. Hartwell property on Elm Street and use the current site for town offices. plans will be presented to the town soon.
Members of the W C T U gathered at Mrs. Chester Barnes home for an afternoon meeting in March. Articles on the prohibition movement were read, plans for April meetings were discussed, and chocolates and cookies were served as attendees felt the time was profitable.
Bedford notes announce a March 12 lecture at 8 o clock by Wm Craig of Faulkner Farms Brookline on The Home and Vegetable Garden. The talk is expected to be well worth hearing as Craig is an expert and practical gardener. A large class of candidates is to be initiated at the first meeting in April.
Several residents attend the Boston auto show with Mrs. Fred Dickerman returning to Rhode Island. Winona Rebekah lodge plans instillation and supper on March 21. John Greer leaves for Pepperell for a fruit farm position. Misses Hutchins of Stoneham visit relatives here. Grace Winslow of Waltham visits Mrs. James B. Richardson. Mabel V. Parker performs at Stoneham entertainment. Winons Rebekah lodge 132 holds a meeting and social for St. Patrick's Day with a farce.
Mr Butler suffered a painful accident while working on a pail lathe at Hall Bros Co mill when a sharp wood splinter pierced his left hand. Workmate John Kempton helped pull it free with pliers. Butler saw Dr Tas e and will be off duty for several days.
Frank L Brown joint general secretary of the World Sunday School convention, known traveler in the Orient, is expected to speak at the Baptist church Sunday morning. The evening meeting will cover The Gospel in Latim Land. Miss Helen Knowlton and Mildred Cyenethan will present talks on related topics. All invited.
