Concord Lodge No. 1479 BPOB staged The Movie Queen at Veterans Building for Friday and Saturday evenings drawing large crowds. The production directed by Edwin W. Arnold featured about a hundred Concord residents in cast and crew with Lovell P. George as chairman. The show included a fashion parade and moving pictures of local scenes and notable Concord figures. Mary Brown played by Cornelia Lawrence wins a Hollywood trip, with plot twists involving Ruth Tompkins as Starbo and manager Joseph McGann.
Miss Grace Elizabeth Moyart daughter of Mr and Mrs William Moyart and Raymond Neal Moody of 11 Maple street wed at St Bridget's church at 7 30 with Rev Walter Roche officiating. Evelyn Moyart bridesmaid and Kenneth Price best man. Reception at Sudbury Arms followed. They will reside in Waltham after a wedding trip. Bride a Maynard High School graduate and Massachusetts General Hospital School for Nursing alumna.
Acton Twelve members met at Mrs. Joseph FitsGibbons home for a round table on house plant care. A Star Cactus and Kalanchoe were shown. A March 8 lecture by John C. Handy on seed germination will include motion pictures. 4-H garden club youths will be invited and organized. The next meeting is March 20 with Mrs. Baxter and Mrs. Allen hosting.
A Maynard gathering honored Boston Deputy Superintendent James R Claffin with kind words and a gift. Joseph Dineen served as toastmaster while Ex Representative Leslie Sims presented Claffin with an easy chair. Speakers included P J Sullivan Noble Morton and Dr Walter Des Frank Murray.
The Boston E. R. A. Symphony orchestra of 42 players will perform at the high school auditorium Friday evening. Admission is by donation. The group, in demand, will also play at Symphony Hall in Boston tomorrow night with Charles Manty of the high school faculty as featured vocalist. The event is a Maynard area benefit arranged by Rev. M. A. Vance, local E R A administrator.

Ash Wednesday program at St George's Church included Holy Communion at 10 am followed by a study hour led by Miss Claris Towne of Boston and a basket lunch and sewing for women. A preparation service is at 7 pm. St Hilda's Guild meets tomorrow at Mrs Spence's Summer Street home. First Lenten service for boys and girls Friday at 4 pm.
Sudbury voters approved a total appropriation of 50 220.51 at the annual town meeting with nearly 400 attendees and 558 votes cast. The school budget was 26 200, with various town expenses listed, and several contested town offices elected including Howard M. Goodnow as selectman and John C. Hall as moderator.
The town approved 3500 for buying a landscape titled Lairyland for a town forest and allocated funds to Willard common and the Emerson hospital. The road department will not hire a purchasing agent, while planning for a new location will be studied. A by-pass land law was referred back to the planning board and library sculpture faced sharp criticism. The meeting at the State Armory followed Finance Committee targets with a 39.50 tax rate, approving 37400 for pupil transport and 9000 to fit old High School rooms for 525 students next fall.
The annual Maynard town meeting packed Cooperatives hall Monday night with heated exchanges between officials and the finance committee. The school appropriation of 389418 excludes restored teacher pay cuts, and an amendment to raise funds was ruled out of order. Leo Mallin of the Maynard Teachers Club led the teachers’ case amid a new limit on voting sums on the warrant.
May J Wood of Bedford died suddenly at home not long after 1876 birth in Bedford. She served 31 years as cashier at Harvard Co operatives in Cambridge and held roles on the Republican town committee and school committee. She was a charter Bedford Women’s Club member and member of the First Parish Unitarian Church. Funeral was at Hillside Avenue. burial in Shawsheen Cemetery. She is survived by her mother Harriet Wood, sisters Mrs Weber and Mrs Daniel, and brother George.
A large attendance filled the Grange hall last Friday for a beano in support of St Michael's building fund. Mrs. Phillip Tackney of Concord road is seriously ill in a Woburn hospital after an operation last Saturday.
A bridge and whist party at Mrs Edwin Qua on Springs Road raised funds for the Parent Teacher Association. Prizes in bridge went to Mrs Emma Brewster Mrs Esther Jones Mrs Sally Converse and Mr Bertha Clark. Whist prizes went to Mrs Marion Winchenbaugh Mrs Mansfield and Mrs Shea with consolation prizes to Mrs B Cole and Mrs Hanson. Door prize was won by Mrs Edwin Jones.
Celestino Primianno and son and Guisepp attended a funeral for a relative in Providence Rhode Island last Saturday.
In Bedford a town caucus chose Herbert L. Clark as selectman over James House and Earl Awood named to oversee welfare, with Numan P. Hanson as road commissioner and Adelbert Perkins and Arthur Rivet on nomination papers. Moderator Claude Palmer received strong support and votes totaled around six hundred.
Maynard Council of the Knights of Columbus plans a membership drive under Arley Lawrence who will direct the effort as grand knight. The executive committee includes former grand knights James B Farrell John Hannon Ralph Sheridan William Smith Harold Morgan Joseph Byrne Patrick McGrath Sylvester Sullivan Frank J McCarron Michael Veleno and Stanley Sienkiewicz.
Sudbury fire chief W E Davis announces a public meeting of the Minutemen Forest Warden on March 13 to discuss fire safety and forest protection. The notice invites local residents and volunteers to attend.
