An afternoon auction will be led by president Mrs. Herbert Pearson.
Acton Garden club plans a field visit to Dracut hosted at Edna Cutter's home. Members gather at Acton Woman's Club at 10 a.m. next Thursday and should bring box lunches.
West Concord Summer union services begin July 1 with the first at Union Church where Rev. Edwin B Nylen will preach at 9 30 am Parishioners from First Parish Unitarian and Trinitarian Congregational join in the services and visitors to historic Concord are invited.
Allied Research announces Hans Krieks Associates of Boston as interior design consultants for its new 62 000 square foot two story plant on a 42 acre Virginia Road site three miles west of Route 128. The $750000 project aims for completion in September with offices labs and shops planned and Beacon Construction as contractor.
Robert C. Stender of Concord has been named executive assistant to Franklin A. Lindsay, president of Itek Corporation. Stender joined Itek in 1960 and previously led product and program planning at Lexington laboratories and research administration. He holds a Harvard Littauer Fellowship and a PhD residency in political economy and government. He and his wife have three sons and reside on Independence road.
Concord Dr Gordon S Brown MIT dean of engineering elected to the board of directors of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp in Pittsburgh. Hanley announced after the board meeting. Brown led MIT electrical engineering 1952 59 and directed the servomechanisms lab researching automation early in his career.
The D A R chapter met at Mrs J M Pettingell s Barker Road to discuss next year s program. Members reviewed current business and set plans for the fall regular meeting.
Concord firemen rushed Allied Research worker Frank Higgins of Everett to Emerson Hospital by ambulance after a fall from a steel beam. He was treated for a head injury by Dr. LeRoy P. Houck. Patrolman Wetherbee found a stolen car abandoned on Route 2, possibly owned by Hoot Gibson of Somerville. Special Officer Carter spotted a fire near Concord Book Shop caused by a discarded cigarette. Two boys bicycled to Everett and were rescued by their parents.
Emerson Hospital participates with Newton Junior College nursing program offering six weeks of clinical training. Students earn Associate of Science degrees in June and nursing pins at July convocation. The two year course aims to attract more students to nursing amid staff shortages and qualifies graduates for RN exams after the affiliation.
Acton selectmen approved bidding for Acton Water District hydrant installation on Main Street South Acton about 200 feet from the line. Allen Nelson discussed street repairs. Henry Erikson cannot serve on the conservation commission. Civil services approved three month temporary transfer of David W Scribner from patrolman to sergeant starting June 11. Tolman Enterprises seeks sign at 2 School Street South Acton. Reactivation of Docket Case 4259 street layout for Taylor and Coughlin streets. Summer schedule: meetings every two weeks July 10 July 24 Aug 7 Aug 21.
Concord residents visit the Gertrude Fiske exhibition in Lexington to see etchings oils drawings and portraits. The show runs through July 1 with hours 11 am to 5 pm daily except Sundays 2 to 5 pm and is closed Mondays. Admission is free.
Concord realtor George A. Coleman of Colman & Sons in Waltham has been elected president of the Brokers Institute of Greater Boston Real Estate Board. Coleman, active since 1933, chairs Concord Housing Authority and leads Forest Park Inc. He also serves on several committees and headed a major membership drive.
Lincoln Sp 4 and Mrs. Smith A DeVoe and former Mary Mayo are parents of twins Mark Denton and Susan Claire born June 15 at Emerson Hospital. Grandparents are Smith A DeVoe Stark Fla and Charles F Mayo Sr Lincoln formerly Concord. Great grandparents are Hocker of New Jersey.
The Concord-Enterprise sets an early deadline next week due to the July 4 holiday. All copy and ads must be received by 10 a.m. Tuesday at 28 Nason Street, Maynard, with the paper printing early and still releasing Thursday morning.
National Guard unit announces its two week encampment at Camp Concord starting July 17 with 75 men and four officers. Training will focus on annual encampment duties as the company prepares for summer drill and state service.
Mrs. Elliott Bunker and her 16 year old son Stephen returned to Jacksonville Beach after visiting relatives in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The Bunkers, born in Lincoln, were welcomed with a cookout hosted by Mrs. Charles Whittier Calkins. Isaac Langille, Bunkers’ father, still lives in Lincoln and they attended his 89th birthday party in Manchester, New Hampshire hosted by daughter Mrs. Richard Studholm.
The big Strawberry Festival of the First Religious Society Carileton will be held at the church off School street starting at 6 p.m. with all you can eat and rain or shine indoors if needed. Carlisle Gleason Library remains closed Wednesday for the holiday per Librarian Helen Wilkie. Regular hours resume later that day with 2:30 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The bookmobile will visit and park on the library lawn from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
