Local Residents Head to Maine Summer Retreats

West Acton families including Mr and Mrs Charles Beck and Marjorie depart for Kennebunk to spend the summer. Mr and Mrs John H Adams and children with Mrs James Brown sail for Wells Beach cottage, Adams to drive weekends. Daniel A Lakin of New Bedford visits Cohasset relatives before returning to summer plans. Miss Jessie Brown has recovered enough to leave hospital and will travel to California for recuperation after a year’s leave from teaching.

Maynard glass of 41 pupils graduate tonight

A class of 41 graduates, the largest in the school's history, will receive diplomas at Colonial Hall. L Everett Wilson chairs the ceremony. J Francis Ceary welcomes, with essays by Grondahl, Howes, Waterhouse, Naylor, and a class poem by Dorothy Priest. The program includes orchestra music and chorus.

Maj Gen Barlow Fitted for College at Concord Academy

The piece notes Maj Gen Francis Channing Barlow grew up in Concord living with his mother, trained at Concord Academy under Miss Jane Whiting, and later returned in 1863 after Gettysburg wounds. It recalls his rise from private to major general, the Barlow Knoll statue unveiled by Frances Barlow Jay, and an editorial praising his moral courage as both soldier and civilian.
