Ser gt Frank Parks of Camp Devens and Miss Christie Washburn of West Acton were married Saturday evening. Miss Washburn is daughter of Mrs. Mary Washburn of Walnut Street. Levi Perkins served as best man. Parks, Maynard native, joined the colors early, now enlisted in Co Db 308d Machine Gun Battalion of the 76th Division. He is an instructor at the divisional bayonet school and recently praised for assault course work at Camp Devens.

Frost Damages Farm Crops Across Local Gardens
Jack Frost struck Thursday night harming beans corn and tomatoes on local farms. Daniel Parmenter lost about five acres of beans while Alms house manager Mr. Dunham reported one and a half acres of field corn and three quarters of an acre of beans lost. C B Lent also suffered large losses to tomatoes and beans. Farmers expect replanting and hope for a good crop later in the year.

Mrs Hakkala Dies After Pneumonia Illness
Mrs. Fred Hakkala of Douglas Avenue died at age 34 on Thursday June 20 after a pneumonia illness. She is survived by her husband and three children. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with burial at Glenwood Cemetery.

Grammar School Graduation in Town Hall
The grammar school held its graduation last Thursday in the town hall. Twenty graduates were named, with Alice Wrye delivering the valedictory. Bertha Knudsen and Duncan Whittaker were class poets. Phyllis Hamblen presented $100 to the Red Cross and James O'Dowd gave a $50 Liberty bond to the school. Norman E White and the principals received two books, Shakespeare and Whittier. Mayor Joseph L. Draft Registration Yields 1838 Men in District
Under the Selective Draft act, 1838 men aged 21 since last June registered in the district. It is expected that 100 Class 1 men will be classified after deducting aliens and exemptions, with 60 in Class 1 from prior registrations. Two men from the limited service class were called recently and sent to a lumber camp in the far west. Reclassification examinations for the 2d 3d and 4th classes proceed next week.
