The Senior class day program featured Salutatory by Agnes, poems and songs by students, and readings led by Elizabeth Cook and Charles Lennon. Teachers and classmates praised the efforts, with prizes announced for popularity and wit, and musical interludes by Barbara Robbins and others.
Walter Brayden captain of Maynard High School baseball was injured when the Weston Bakery truck ran off the road at Lake Boon Thursday. Brayden was taken to Marshboro hospital and is resting comfortably with no serious injuries.

Pollari and his wife escaped unharmed though shaken. a passenger Szszwyzk, alone in the wreck, crawled through a broken window and sustained only a minor chin cut. Patrolman Frath Downey cleared the scene as traffic is heavy. The approach on Parker Street is obstructed by trees and bushes and officials suggest widening the corner to improve safety.
Everett F. Sweet, longtime resident of Rogers estate in South Sudbury, has leased the Nathaniel Hawthorne homestead in Concord for summer tercentenary visitors. Margaret Sidney Lathrop, author of Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, also lived there years ago. Mrs. Sweet donated a fine ivory miniature of her late husband’s father to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, now on exhibit in a museum group.
The Sudbury High School graduating class held their annual dance Friday night at Wayland Town Hall. Sheridan's Orchestra provided music and many friends attended, with everyone enjoying themselves.
Maynard officials and the Legion Post with the Elks lodge organize a two day Independence Day event starting July 3. The program features a Night Before the Fourth parade concert and fireworks at Crowe Park plus a full day of entertainment, races, a ballgame, and a boxing bout. Proceeds go to benevolent funds with no aim for profit.
Commencement exercises for Acton High School Class of 1930 held in the auditorium on June 19. The program included entrances, salutatory, soloists, Gilbert and Sullivan selections, an address by Carl Schrader of Boston, class chorus, prizes, and the presentation of awards by Dr. Thomas and Mrs. Charles L. Clack. Graduates listed include Hilda Bergind, Mildred Brill, Sterling Hager, Pauline Nelson, Judith Dunne, Roy Cann, Martin Duggan, Josh Dunn, and others.
Mrs Lily Bal Starrett wife of Rev David Garrett died at her Cambridge home after illness. She lived in Chicago earlier and was 72. Survived by her husband two sons Claiborne M Garrett of New York and Jackson Russell Garrett of Concord and a sister Miss Maury Selmey of Cambridge. Funeral held at Trinity Church with Rev O Dexter presiding.
The Whitson family, including Mies Frances Whitson daughter of Dr and Mrs Whitson, attended a Boston event linked to the Bathing Beauty Follies. The banquet occurred during a major social service conference hosted by the YWCA and their Boston chapter.
The Sudbury Hi Tercentenary events featured a colorful parade and ceremonies with notable speakers from Marlboro Maynard and Concord. Governor G Allen and Attorney J Rice addressed the crowd while local officials and visiting guests celebrated the town’s history and pride.
James Mula and Bertha Chause of Waltham were injured after a late night auto crash on North Street in Sudbury. Nutile was arrested for operating under the influence and endangering the public safety as responders rushed the victims to Emerson Hospital in Framingham for treatment.
Under the West Concord Village Improvement Society, a grand celebration is planned on Independence Eve at the Harvey ler West Concord School grounds. The event features the famous Giers wand, the Church Ladies Union Lawn Party, Magician Prof. More, and Ex Mayor Edwin Childs of Newton as speakers. Refreshments will be sold.
