Local couples united in marriage in Concord

In Concord two weddings took place Sunday and Saturday. Miss Anne Root wed Thomas William McGrath at St Bernard's church with a reception at Intervale farm and plans a local residence. Dorothy Ann Naiden and Lieutenant William D Ellis were married in Fort Jackson South Carolina where Ellis is stationed.

Lions Club Field Day Sunday at Musketaquid Grounds

Concord Lions Club will stage Field Day next Sunday afternoon at Musketaquid Sportsmen's Club grounds off Flarrington Avenue in West Concord. The event begins at 2 pm with a full course roast dinner in the evening, chaired by H Theodore Beharrell. Lions and Lionesses attend a bi monthly program with games for all ages and a $50 defense bond grand prize. Dinner reservations due by Friday and bond tickets by Saturday night.

Concord Art Association Exhibition of Aircraft Models

Concord Art Association plans a July 15 to August 30 exhibition in the Art Centre gallery on Lexington road for aircraft models not exceeding three feet in any dimension and meeting a high workmanship standard. The Army and Navy urge civilian and school participation as thousands of models are needed. Models meeting requirements will be returned and shipped to Washington after the show. the project aims to aid observers in identifying planes and has Air Craft Warning Service endorsement. Open to all ages, not limited to Concord residents. Plans available from Miss Mary Abbott or Mrs Stanwood Bolton.

Doctors resume duties after vacation at Lake Winnipesaukee

West Concord physician Dr Bernard Maisel and wife Mrs Maisel return to duties. Dr Maisel resumes pathology head duties at Massachusetts General after July 1, returning to Boston from New York Dean to lead at M G H. Mrs Maisel enters Peter Bent Brigham Hospital as part of the family’s medical placements.

Medical cases total 60.5, obstetrical 8, out patients 78, operations 47, accident cases 11, patients in hospital at month end 38. Concord High picks co captains for 1943 track team

Concord announces shotputter Charles Dee and half miler Richard Wetherbee as co captains of the 1943 track squad, succeeding William Aimrose Jr. and Merton Sanborn who graduate this week. Both veterans of the Ginder team, Dee and Wetherbee are juniors. Dee also appears as football co captain elect while Wetherbee plays basketball.

Camp Fire Girls Raise Funds for Oklahoma City Camp

Oklahoma City Camp Fire girls cleared about 1200 dollars this summer by selling doughnuts. They sold seventeen thousand two hundred donuts to raise funds for a new camp building.

Concord Man Ison Duty in Alaska

Concord citizen Major Norman Spencer Jr, 29, son of Dr. Spencer of Lowell Road, stationed at Fairbanks Alaska with a bombardment squadron and meteorologist. Born in Boston and a Concord High School graduate, he attended Stanton Military, West Point class of 1936, then flying school and meteorology study at California Tech. Commissioned captain, sent to Alaska June 15 1941, now with family in Pasadena. father is a local dentist and reservist colonel.

Honor Roll Dedicated at St Bernard's Church

Concord reports the St Bernard's parish formally dedicates its honor roll listing 81 parish youths now in military service with room for more. The ceremony featured Pastor Rev Walter Quinlan and Rev George Mulcahy with army chaplains from Fort Devens, plus local veterans and scouts in attendance.

Bedford Graduation Class Dance in School Auditorium

Friday night the graduating class held its annual dance in the school auditorium. The hall was decorated by the boys and girls in charge. Patrons included Mr and Mrs Percival Prim, Mr and Mrs John Brows, Mr and Mrs Emerson Goff, Dr. Waldemar Richter, Rev. Frank Thompson and Ritasell Dodge.

Hadley Couple Celebrate 65th Wedding Anniversary

Sudbury residents observed the 65th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Hadley at Lancaster on June 15. He was a longtime railroad man with the N H and H. she, though not in good health, remains active and is an honorary Woman's Club member. They moved to Sudbury in 1885 and raise seven children, five living.

Golf Tourney Results at Concord Country Club

Over the weekend at the Concord Country Club the championship results were posted. In the second division second round A C Bliss beat A C Peters one up in twenty one holes and Dr Randolph C Piper defeated Frederick Gooding four and three. Concord Youth Collects Integral Indian Arrowheads

A 17 year old Concord youth J Raymond Sims Jr has assembled a notable arrowhead collection estimated at nearly 600 pieces. His find sites include the Concord river banks and nearby plots, with some pieces rivaling those of Benjamin L Smith of Sudbury. Sims plans to keep collecting for years hoping to uncover more historically valuable specimens.

Service for Fritz Nelson in Arlington

Funeral services were held for Fritz Emmanuel Nelson 78 at Berglund Funeral Home Arlington with Rev Donald T Lothrop of the Community Church of Boston officiating. Burial followed at Sleepy Hollow cemetery. Nelson born in Sweden lived in Concord and Boxboro with his daughter Gustaf Blaine Nissen. He worked over 80 years as a motorman for Brooklyn and Merborough Rapid Transit and leaves a grandson in the army and five granddaughters. His wife had died years earlier.
